    My "No Spare Tire" Kit

!DRAT! The tire shop said that the damage is in the shoulder, and they won't patch it (I'm not arguing, my kids ride in the car with me). Maybe I'll use this as an excuse to buy some new wheels (always looking for a silver lining). Anybody have a recommendation for a summer...

    My "No Spare Tire" Kit

Well my number finally came up... after more than 35 years of driving, I had my first flat tire last night I was on my way to pick up my son from his robotics competition and heard a whap-whap-whap sound from the driver's side rear wheel. I figured it was just a stone stuck in the tread and...

Is there a recommended windshield washer fluid?

I use Sonax Clear View (purchased at Amazon) mixed in distilled water. Very happy with the glass cleaning performance, this combo doesn't leave streaks on my car, and it smells nice. This stuff does not reduce the freezing temp of the washer fluid, so not for cold weather use... fortunately it...

    Echo Auto In Model 3

I plugged mine in to the phone dock using a Tesla micro USB cable cable. Installation was less than one minute and the Echo looks like it belongs there. Audio quality is excellent, and I like having somebody to talk to in the car ;). I have had zero issues with my Echo whatsoever (perhaps...

    Unable to Delete FM Favorite

This is what Tesla support initially suggested, but in my case the press and hold in tile mode did bring up the "X" icon for the 97.7 KFFG HD2 preset.

    Unable to Delete FM Favorite

I finally figured it out! Apparently the difficulty deleting this station has to do with it being HD radio and specifically that it's the station's "HD2" channel. The new station broadcasting on 97.7, KJLV, has multiple HD channels (as does KFOG). However for some unknown reason only the HD1...

    Unable to Delete FM Favorite

Yes, I have rebooted several times. No joy. Nope, selecting and/or de-selecting the star does not remove this station. Simple. Press the right steering wheel button and say "Play Yellow Submarine by the Beatles" (or whatever the song and artist was). Once Slacker is playing the song just hit...

    Unable to Delete FM Favorite

Nope, that doesn't work. I have tried and adding and deleting other Favorites, including the new station that's on 97.7... but I still cannot delete this old 97.7 KFFG HD2

    Unable to Delete FM Favorite

Can anybody explain to me how I can delete this one FM Favorite? Tesla customer support cannot  Here's the story: For many years, one of my local radio stations (KFOG) was broadcast on two frequencies. The primary is/was 104.5 and the simulcast was 97.7 and I had both of them saved in my...

What's the best tire place in South Bay Area

Ummm... NO, thank you! Why would anybody risk damaging a Tesla battery pack? Perry, please share the location of this America's Tire so that I can be sure to avoid them.

What's the best tire place in South Bay Area

I have been using Custom Alignment in Mountain View for my wheel, tire, & suspension work for many years. I would trust them to mount tires on my pretty new wheels... and they are diligent about proper balancing (including road force measurement).

    Does key fob summon work?

Reports are that Summon With Key Fob in 2019.7.11 (unfortunately I'm still on 2019.5.15) The What's-New notes from Tesla state: "You can move your Model 3 in and out of a parking space from outside the car using a paired key fob. Tesla Model 3 Roof Rack – J-Bolt securing the rack snapped

The black clips were hardened, but apparently never got annealed... I annealed mine and I expect they'll be fine. In the mean time, I just received the replacements from Yakima. Will swap them out when I get a chance. -Mark

Installing the official Tesla model 3 roof rack

Yes high carbon steel should be annealed, or at least stress-relieved, after welding... but I have absolutely no idea what material the hooks are made from. If I had to guess, I would speculate that the original hooks were hardened but never annealed, which left them in a very strong but...

Installing the official Tesla model 3 roof rack

I really wanted to test them before annealing too! But at the time I wasn't willing to break one, 'cause that would have just make more work for me... cutting/bending/welding a new clip from scratch. Yes I did flex them after annealing and none broke ;) PM me an we can discuss the best use of...

Installing the official Tesla model 3 roof rack

I don't know the carbon content or austenizing temp' of this steel, so I had to do some guessing; I used a small gas forge and pre-heated to 1600ºF, then put the clips in and soaked them at 1500º for 20 minutes. After soaking I closed the forge and let it to cool to room temp with no quench...

Installing the official Tesla model 3 roof rack

I also just received a FedEx shipping notification about a package from Yakima... and I also have not contacted Tesla. This cannot be a coincidence. o_O In the meantime, based on my my belief that the fractured clips were the result of improper heat treating, I went ahead and annealed mine this...

Tesla Model 3 Roof Rack – J-Bolt securing the rack snapped

Glad I haven't installed mine yet too! Based on the shape of the broken clip and the appearance of the grain structure, it looks like the fracture is the result of improper heat treating of the hook assembly after welding. -Mark

Installing the official Tesla model 3 roof rack

I'm not a metallurgist either, but I am a mechanical engineer and it is my opinion that the sheet metal, threaded fastener, and weld should be more than strong enough for this application. The cracking is not caused by the notch. From what i can see, based on the grain structure and shape of...

Model 3 has no spare tire

Flat tires suck! However in 40 years of driving I've never had a flat that couldn't be temporarily repaired with a plug until the tire could be dismounted to have a proper patch applied or be replaced (and I have had multiple holes and some big enough that several rope plugs were needed). I...

Tow hook front license plate holder?

I have the Cravenspeed mount... The tow-hook cover is easily removable and the new mount includes a velcro strap to hold the frunk wires in place. AFAIAK the wires are more secure with the Cravenspeed mount in place because tools are required to remove the mount rather than simply popping off...

Tempered glass clear screen protector that actually fits?

I'm using the "HD Clear" screen protector from Abstract Ocean. The top, bottom, and side edges are a perfect fit. However, there is the slightest mismatch of both bottom corner radii compared to the Model 3 screen... I can see it if I look very closely from directly in front of the screen, but...

No Drill Front License Plate Holder

I'm using the CravenSpeed Platypus. Pros: Looks cool, installs & removes easily, doesn't touch the bumper cover, no ground clearance issues. Cons: It costs $93 more than the stick-on Tesla mount, need carry a 3/4" socket with me in case I ever have to install the tow-hook. -Mark

    Tesla Roof Rack!

I've heard that there are threaded mounting holes in the sills on the roof, hidden under the weather-strip... their location is indicated by little triangular arrows on the glass roof panels. The price seems to be in-line with other high quality roof racks. Hope they're in-stock sometime soon ;)

    Enough Superchargers for Thanksgiving?

I stopped at Tejon Ranch (8 of 24 stalls in use) and Kettleman City (12 of 40 stalls in use) last night. Plenty of charging capacity on pre-Thanksgiving-Tuesday at these very popular Supercharging locations... but I suspect today (Wednesday) will be a zoo. According to TeslaFi, I spent 26...

    TuxMat Floor Liners

First I removed the side panels from the center console (they pull off fairly easily) to choose an appropriate location for the inner (male) side of the snaps and marked the spot with a piece of tape. I love my TuxMats! They fit perfectly, provide great coverage, are easy to clean, and I think they look great. I've compared them side by side with the Maxpiders and I prefer the aesthetic of the Tux's, but it really is a matter of personal preference. One thing I think could be improved on...

    My "No Spare Tire" Kit

I installed auxiliary 12V ports in my trunk & center console... I would not plug this (or any) 12V compressor into the M3's piddly cig' lighter socket! I machined the jack pad from a piece of aluminum round bar. The protective pad on top is cut from a sheet of Sintra.
