    Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat...

I talked to a friendly ranger at a supercharger and he told me the unusual pattern (offline/online hourly cycles) was voluntarily introduced by Tesla to fix an issue with the new Swiss telecom provider (Sunrise). Apparently they have to do this to maintain connectivity. Take this with a grain of...

    Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat...

I know that’s what the theory says. My Model S 75D, with/after the MCU 2 upgrade, was loosing up to 6% of battery from idling a day. That’s more than 4 kWh a day (almost 170 W). It is not really the money for the lost energy I am concerned about, but more the fact that I can’t expect to leave my...

    Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat...

Still haven’t found a solution to this issue. I’ve tried everything mentioned in the last posts, and went as far as to replace my 12v battery. It did not solve the issue but am least the car is experiencing a little less vampire drain.

Very odd sleep pattern after MCU2

Hey @JohnRamboJedi, Can I take a wild guess that your car is a 2017ish Model S ? Some people (myself included) have been having the same issue you describe. You’ll find some relevant posts in this thread: Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat... or in my post...

    Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat...

Just out curiosity, did he do this remotely or with physical access to the car?
  6. F

    Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat...

What I meant to say is that they told you your car has gotten some deep sleep, you have no way of verifying this independently. I take everything they report with a hint of skepticism: they came up with widely different energy consumption number than those reported by their own API when they...

    Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat...

Just as an additional datapoint: - I had some big vampire drain related to this, disabling TeslaMate (and/or every app) did not help. - The MCU itself showed that the car never slept more than 3700 something seconds; even though TeslaMate (and/or every app) had been deactivated for months (with...

    2022.12.x

Still on V10 (with a legacy model S), but I am considering updating to this version when I get it. The car has been acting funky in the last week and I have a feeling it has something to do with the « update software » pop up overwhelming the MCU.. Any reasons not to?

    Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat...

I did change the 12v battery (it did reduce the amount of battery drain slightly, but did not change the -in my case- offline/idle pattern). I went to Tesla to have the car checked and also had them do a remote diagnostic and they told me that the « US engineering team is aware of this behavior...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

@jun3280net I’m a little late with my reply, but I’m glad they could fix the issue on your car ! I, on the other hand, definitely had no luck: they refused to change my SIM card and told me that “the issue is known and engineering is working on a fix” while refusing to give me any timeframe...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic. On the one hand I truly want to believe that it will, on the other hand this problem appeared the moment I stopped using TeslaFi (aka keeping the car awake) after my MCU upgrade. So I am at least a little suspicious. @jun3280net: according to TeslaMate...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Thanks for the update! I’m running about the same config as you are (only TeslaMate with the streaming API and Tesla App with no widgets and closed after each use), and I’m seeing a little less drain than you (about 0.75 km/h on average, can go up to 1+ and down to 0.50 on some instances)...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

So I tried both these fixes (complete cold reboot, was so fun I did it twice) and invalidating the tokens again, and no dice. Today a ranger came by to replace my 12v battery (which was 4+ years old, and funnily enough the service center -which is not the same that handled my other ticket for...

Car won’t sleep, hot rearview camera possibly causing 12 V battery failure

So I did this again while powering off the car first and the alarm did not go off (make sure to turn off the AC and lower your driver's side window first). It did not solve my "car not sleeping and starting offline often" though.

Car won’t sleep, hot rearview camera possibly causing 12 V battery failure

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I have a quick question: I tried the cold boot thing today and the car alarm came up when I unplugged the high voltage battery (at the emergency/first responder loop) and then again when I plugged it back in. Is that supposed to happen? I found a manual...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

@jun3280net : thank you for both these links. I think the “e-mailing Tesla to make sure the tokens are invalidated” is more placebo (resetting the password does invalidate the tokens in my experience). But that Cold Reboot sounds very promising (and drastic, which I love). I’m trying this out...

    Model S 2017 75D wont sleep properly 1hr sleep, 15min awake repeat...

Somebody shared this topic with me since I have been experiencing somewhat similar issues ( Post in thread 'Battery Drain Overnight.' Battery Drain Overnight.).In my case, the cas (2017 S75D) has never slept since the MCU2/AP3 upgrade. I have done the “reset the password to invalidate API...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

@jun3280net I’m sorry to hear you are having the same issues. In my case, I did test the 12v battery with a multimeter and it seemed to be perfectly healthy. Another far-fetched theory I have seen (on TeslaFi’s support forums I think) was that a seat sensor was defective and keeping the car...

Model S intermittently loses 4G/LTE/network connectivity while powered off

Do not worry my dudes, the SC rep told me that « the issue is under investigation and a software fix will be rolled out in a future firmware upgrade. » The fact that he clearly understands the difference between software and firmware and my past experience with that same answer for an unrelated...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Another quick update: got a response from Tesla stating that the “duration of my sleep is all-right as long as I don’t use any third party apps” (which is a lie since the value I got was still 3941 seconds after leaving my car idle with no apps for 8 days) and that they “are not allowed to share...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Another quick update: got an email from Tesla support, my LTE disconnects is a « known issue » that will be fixed « with a future firmware update » for which « engineering has not provided a date ». Yay. The last time I got that kind of response was relating to my MCU1 visual bugs and random...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Another quick update: - I have added to the existing issue on TeslaMate's GitHub discussion with logs and all as you suggested @init6. I am hoping for a miracle ;). - I have not yet received an "offline" e-mail from TeslaFi (with the setting at 90 minutes, I have now set it to 60 minutes, see...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Not having access to the actual car logs, I have to admit that this is an assumption. But this assumption (that the car is really "offline") is backed by the fact that the car is actually disconnected from the internet (no LTE connection) when I get in after letting it sit for a while and that I...
  24. F

    Battery Drain Overnight.

I wish I could tell you; but repeated tests show that the car goes “offline” with very limited battery loss with no logging apps, and does this “online/offline” pattern with excessive loss even with only TeslaMate turned on (I checked and am using the last version, I did this after revoking all...
  25. F

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Another quick update: did a test with no app and only TeslaMate, and I am still getting “excessive” battery drain and seeing the same “online/offline” pattern as before. The silver lining is that TeslaMate alone keeps the LTE from disconnecting. My solution right now is to use TeslaFi...
  26. F

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Just a quick update: a 48 hour idle test (no app/logging, but mobile access turned on) yielded a loss of just under 10km. What I would consider a pretty normal vampire drain (taking the colder weather the car had been sitting in also). I woke up the car twice during those 48 hours and the LTE...
  27. F

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Yes I ran TeslaMate only for about a week (though that was before uninstalling the Tesla app, although I don’t think the app was preventing the car from sleeping). The patterns were exactly the same. I’ll try this again next week and see if maybe I get lucky. Thank you very much for the...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Summon standby is disabled and I have no custom things connected to the electrical system such as trunk/frunk openers (I have in fact nothing connected to the car at all, I have unplugged my USB drive too). Some update: I tested the 12v battery with a multimeter. At first the car was definitely...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Thanks everyone for chipping in and trying to solve this with me ! I was, but since trying to diagnostic this a little more precisely I have been using only one at once (and sometimes none, as explained in my previous posts); it was actually one of my first suspicions when I first tried to...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Testing with mobile access on and all logging off was my next step; I'll do it as soon as I know the car is not going to move for 24+ hours. This is a pattern from TeslaMate: And this is one from TeslaFi (NOTE: not from the same time period). This is what a typical day without use looks...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Under normal circumstances (with everything turned off settings-wise but TeslaFi enabled) anywhere between 2 and 6% a day (with somewhere around 3-4 being the norm. A report I got from Tesla (in which their numbers vary substantially with mine), it says the “general véhicule electrical upkeep”...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

You are right ! I have documented some of my tries here and here. To summarize: - I have dealt with the usual culprits (turned off Sentry, Cabin Overheat Protection, Summon Standby, turning off the car alarm completely, unplugged all USB devices…) - I have done all kind of reboots (soft and...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Sorry to revive a 6 month old thread, but did you get it fixed in the end? I am having a similar issue with my car (that hasn’t properly slept once since my MCU upgrade 4 months ago) and I’m a little out of ideas.

Since my MC2/HW3 upgrade, the car will not sleep when plugged in

So I just did a quick test during which I turned off both Mobile Access and all logging, and although with that time frame it is not 100% conclusive, the result is that I lost exactly 0 km of range in 30 hours. As a frame of reference, I usually loose between 10 and 20km a day in those same...

Since my MC2/HW3 upgrade, the car will not sleep when plugged in

I have the feeling that the idle power consumption was somehow reduced in the ~40 hours I turned off mobile access (and all first-and-third-party apps, obviously). I will try that again the next time I know the car will be unused for 48+ hours. If it really is the case, it solved half a problem...

Since my MC2/HW3 upgrade, the car will not sleep when plugged in

I am also experiencing this issue (I have posted about it there). The car has not been able to sleep for more than an hour (EDIT: actually a little more than on hour, 3941 seconds to be precise) since the MCU2 upgrade (confirmed through the "dynotest" menu bug from a few firmware versions ago)...

Model S intermittently loses 4G/LTE/network connectivity while powered off

I did see your post previously and it did look like what my car is going through; the thing is mine is a Q3 2017 (and I don’t know if these have a standby DCDC converter or not). I’m considering doing a factory reset, because my bet is on a software issue (some setting having been somehow «...

Model S intermittently loses 4G/LTE/network connectivity while powered off

I’ll allow myself to piggyback on this topic with an issue I think is related to the OP: ever since I upgraded to the MCU I have been experiencing the same issues (car seemingly being asleep and waking up disconnected from LTE, taking minutes to reconnect) and I somehow think it’s related to the...

How many of you had Door handle issues on your Model S?

I have had two door handles (the same one twice, actually) fail on me (since end of 2017, mid-2017 built). The SC thought they would have to replace the whole thing but when I asked for the part it suddenly turned out to be « just a controller board » issue (which actually fixed the issue). When...

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

I can tell you specifically that’s not the case: I have an AP2.0 car and preordered FSD, haven’t gotten my AP upgrade yet (and I have asked a few times in the past 12 months) and got confirmation today that the price for me would indeed be 2000. Granted, I have a facelift S with AP2.. but AFAIK...

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

Turns out the service appointment I made a month ago just meant « we will look at your request 4 days before, send you an invoice and if you accept order the parts and contact you when you can make an appointment when the parts are here ». What a great service. I am postponing the MCU upgrade...

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

I have my appointment this Thursday for the MCU/AP upgrade and CSS retrofit. I pre-ordered FSD (and as a European haven’t seen even the glimpse of a feature yet), have been asking for the AP upgrade for a year (to which they always said: « we are doing people who also upgrade their MCU first »)...
  47. F

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

Wait, just do that I understand correctly: the upgrade is now $2000 for AP 2/2.5 cars, with the additional $500 being for the AP upgrade even for people who « pre-ordered » FSD !?

    Firmware 2020.48.x

Not that it matters (I live / drive mostly in a place where there are notoriously no red lights) but do you need AP HW 2.5/3 for that or does it work on HW2 (and MCU 1)? Because si far all I’ve gotten from FSD is a very expensive invoice and a bunch of canceled appointments for the AP HW upgrade..
