Report: Tesla to Deliver First Cars from Shanghai Factory on Dec. 30

Regarding sales in China, it doesn't really matter, since any allocation would have been diverted elsewhere anyway. Global sales will remain as planned

    Tesla Cybrtrk

Let's be honest. If it's as "out there" as suggested, we're not going to need to read the name to know what it is!

    EV's being considered "Green"

I don't consider a "report" that bases EV pollution on pure coal generation, for batteries, car build and lifetime grid generation, but compares that to an ICE car build on 100% green energy, with the same for fuel processing, to be a valid "opinion" Sorry......

    EV's being considered "Green"

It's been done. Don't believe the "German study", it's all over the place.
  6. R

    EV's being considered "Green"

That "the vast majority" isn't? That while some is, it's changing fast (for purely economic reasons) That even if it was, EV's are still cleaner. Do more research.

    Hydrogen vs. Battery

I think it's quite likely you don't have a clue.
  8. R

    Hydrogen vs. Battery

That's the main problem. There are several things that can go wrong with Hydrogen. If one detector, or a pipe, or connection fails. If one "non- professional" connects something incorrectly, it can become a bad situation very quickly.
  9. R

    Hydrogen vs. Battery

(.....but we've spend many billions on this and don't want to lose face..... ?) Same as Dieselgate.

    Hydrogen vs. Battery

Toyota? Toyota admits 'Elon Musk is right' about fuel cell, but moves forward with hydrogen anyway - Electrek
  11. R

    Hydrogen vs. Battery

You're missing that you have to liberate the Hydrogen, it doesn't just "exist" on its own. That means you must consider how you obtain it. Since fossil fuels should (will) be out of the picture, that leaves grid electricity, which brings us back to the same old problem. You can use that...

    Getting too used to Autopilot

Wait until you pull up outside your house, then you get out and as your Tesla drives away, it says "I'll be back".......

    The Promise of Maxwell

Precisely. The machines pictured in the Maxwell website (before all mention of batteries was removed!) Are no doubt churning out batteries for test, and/or production, plus being replicated by either the original manufacturer, or Grohmann. I fully expect these to be in production cars in Q1...

Tesla / Maxwell: It Seems Mainstream News Coverage Has Missed The Mark

"Nanotechnology"? Having seen a cross sectional diagram of the process, it looks like a photocopier. (And yes, I do know about photocopiers)

You'd have to ask Tesla that one!

Tesla model 3 accident with a Mack truck

Navigant: GM Cruise, Waymo Lead Tesla And Others On Full Autonomy

"CAPABILITY"! Do you think that HE hasn't used HW3? "Resultant deaths"? That's bs and you know it.
  23. R

Navigant: GM Cruise, Waymo Lead Tesla And Others On Full Autonomy

"Prediction"? A tweet announcing completion of a coast to coast fully autonomus trip within a few months of HW3 Initiation, either by Tesla, or an owner. Added to the long list of "Tesla can't / Tesla won't" FUD.

Navigant: GM Cruise, Waymo Lead Tesla And Others On Full Autonomy

Has he, or anyone from Tesla ever described autopilot in its present form as FSD? Have you listened to the ARK interview?

Navigant: GM Cruise, Waymo Lead Tesla And Others On Full Autonomy

You don't seem to be paying much attention to developments? You quote supposed deficiencies in the Tesla system based on year old incidents and data, but conveniently forget both the waymo "pedestrian incident" and the imminent Tesla hardware update. May I suggest you listen (again?) to the Elon...

Navigant: GM Cruise, Waymo Lead Tesla And Others On Full Autonomy

Fleets operating in cities are in a controllable, limited environment. Can the waymo and other systems be given a totally random destination outside of their normal operating area and successfully navigate to that point in any weather conditions? I think that's what we're going to see from the...

Navigant: GM Cruise, Waymo Lead Tesla And Others On Full Autonomy

Do they drive outside of "mapped" urban areas? They don't seem to account for the upcoming upgrade from Tesla.

EU CCS Charging: chargespeed & stations

Exactly. The "ah but what about the long range performance" brigade have been looking forward to the fast chargers, but from your calculations, it would seem that on a longrr journey, say 300miles, the Tesla's would be in front, and with a slightly longer stop, have well fed, comfortable passengers!
  29. R

EU CCS Charging: chargespeed & stations

Exactly. I skirted around the possible issues with the Audi, but fully expect Bjørn (and others) to highlight some "challenges". A full day comparison will confirm these. My opinion? Pouch cells aren't quite there yet. I still think these cars were designed on the promise of the next stage cell...

Tesla and Mercedes are Talking Electric Vans

As I posted, the IONA van is a genuine e-sprinter chassis, but manages a substantial increase in range.

EU CCS Charging: chargespeed & stations

450 miles which anywhere but Germany is near 7 hours driving, which will out-range 95% of drivers. Compare that with "other EVs" which may(?) Charge faster(?) But, if tests so far prove to be the norm, will need to stop more often. Needs a direct comparison soon!

Tesla CFO Deepak Ahuja Announces Retirement

Those analysts expressing "concern" regarding the age and experience of Mr Kirkhorn would do well to note that at the time of his first appointment as CFO at Autoalliance (Ford), Deepak Ahuja was 30 years old. That seems to have worked out?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Possibly, I'm just posting a scenario. I've driven a car (company car) for 40 years. My (millennial) daughter doesn't own one, has no desire to own one, sees no need to own one in the future. If she can open an app, book a collection when she wants, have aastress free journey in a nice car, with...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Has anyone asked how many of these layoffs (if any) were short-term contracts? Were sales and support staff employed specifically for Q3 and Q4 2018?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The wish (need?) To own a vehicle, or NOT(!) should be a huge consideration. There's a theory that as EV's, then automated vehicles come to market, fewer vehicles will be sold and the rise of extremely cheap hail to ride services will dominate. It's only natural that these trends will be driven...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Possible, but if they *know* a next generation product is coming, the battery OEMs would be reluctant to build in one format, only to rip out the facilities after 5 (?) years. If they can produce a 90% product, allow their customers to bring vehicles to market, then transition quickly and...
  43. R

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

But they did say they expect the venture to yield production sufficient for 1 million EV's. That's a large commitment for a company that has previously been an advocate of the "fool cell"? It seems to fit that if they had an embryonic product, 9-12 months conversion and test production, another...

Blog Tesla to Reduce Production of Model S, Model X

Don't think in terms of just the US market. Theres plenty of scope for high sales elsewhere.
  45. R

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I agree, although it's possible that the reason OEMs favour pouch cells is a belief that solid state cells will use that format, making transition simple? This may explain the Toyota/Panasonic venture?
  46. R

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The Toyota Panasonic deal is for prismatic (pouch) cells, not 18650. I'm sure the factory would be suitable for conversion, although panaPanas may keep it for static storage production(?). I think it's more likely that tTyota has made some progress in solid state and are looking for a stable...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

"X" % increase in Model 3 production from the previously X line. Cheaper cells due to increased 2170 volume (S/X?) 50%+ of M3 production to Europe. (FUD's move back to "Tesla can't produce enough" narrative) Some (all models) to China (possibly with dispensation of tarrifs due to the factory...
  48. R

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I was wondering if they would: Switch a production line to Model 3 using existing workers and robots. Redesign the internals of the S/X to accept 2170, saving cell cost and shipping, while increasing pack density. This would allow for greater production of M3 (including the base car?) and...

Blog Tesla to Reduce Production of Model S, Model X

Have you considered that the cut in S/X production may allow transfer of factory space, machinary and personal to model 3 production? Also (again!) The waiting list doesn't just apply to the home market! The are plenty of customers elsewhere.
