$10 for air

I think Tesla’s response was fine.

I am wondering if those who think Tesla did not handle this well, are you demanding that it be free?

I have a feeling that if the technician said it was $2.50 or $5.00, there would be comments along the lines of it being a waste of time or petty to even complete a transaction of such little value.

I also wonder if it took the technician away from a job for 20 minutes, between interacting with the customer and moving the car(s) around, processing the payment, would those who are unhappy with Tesla then offer up 1/3rd of the hourly labor rate?

Where I live there are some free air sources at gas stations and some are coin-operated. You could also do it at home. I don’t understand wanting someone to do this for you for free, especially outside any other billable service.

...free air in California...

The 1999 law gives you free tire air only if you paid for fuel at that station. If you can't produce a receipt that you spent money on fuel at a particular station, it's not free.

It's also free if there's a service performed even if the service center doesn't sell fuel.

So, it's only "free" if you paid for something else :)

I wanted to do it. They should provide a self service station soon.

Here I am trying to get to my destination and my gas station is a supercharger. So I had to supercharge then go to the gas station to fill up my air. Very convenient..

Are you kidding me. My last car was an Audi A7 and my wife still has her S4.

Audi let's you come in and top off all fluids - oil, trans, wiper, anything and they do it for FREE and within 15 min with NO appt.

Basically you don't have to pay for oil change, but drain it to min or wait for it to get their itself (it's an Audi) and they will but in all the oil you need till it's full.

And Tesla is charging for air and asking for appt.

Like I've said many times - I LOVE my Tesla and have loved them since 2012 - BUT fit and finish, along with customer service has a LONG way to go be it compared to high priced German cars cars or low / mid range Japanese cars.

Heck when I had a Toyota and it was a few months outside warranty and needed the top end rebuilt they offered to charge me half price since I always had every service done with them and was a low mileage driver.

Where do we get air then if we dont really go to gas stations? Specially these days our cars are just sitting in the garage. Prone to loosing air. I think Tesla should be required to atleast provide free air, atleast for their own product.

i think if I go to BMW and ask for air with my bmw they will give me free air, or even Toyota.

Keep a small compressor and tire patch kit in the car; especially since Tesla also doesn't included a spare time.

Doesn't Tesla sell something themselves just for this?

It really is for convenience.. imagine driving long distance from NorCal to socal. Let’s do a supercharger stop. Oh wait I pay for supercharging. Would it be ok to fill up my tires. It’s running low and I can get a flat? Sorry we don’t do that. There goes another 15 min to go to the gas station and fill it up. Sigh...

Well let's go liberal then. States make a law that air stations should be available at EV charging stations. However, they would be forced to put air stations at the strip mall parking lots as well. Also, the casinos, hotels etc would be forced to do the same. So who knows what will be law in the future.. But right now, if it's a business decision for Tesla, I don't blame them..

I have a bicycle hand-operated pump (the kind with a plunger) that I've used for decades to top off my tires at home. It also gives me a good workout. I also have an old 12v tire pump in my frunk for use on the road. Never used it except when i first got it to try it out. It was so painfully slow and noisy that I just shelved it. I got it out of storage for my Model 3 since it doesn't have a spare tire and I may need to reinflate a punctured tire after plugging it.

We mandate at the national and state levels about inflation pressure.
We even make it more difficult and expensive to have winter tires.
We even pay to throw away the tires when they have 0 miles on them.

The Government says: All You Tires Are Belong To Us!
