Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

Tirerack has incorrect data so I can't use their search engine, it claims a 275/55-21 is 27.7" dia and fits a 10-11" wide rim. It should be roughly 33" on a 9. Normally what you do search tires with the same ~dia, load and speed rating. But yes, that specific profile currently has only a...

    Model Y LR vs. EV6

This is only with the SC (nannies) turned OFF and it defaults to ON. It will probably get better autocross times with it off. Too much understeer is just as dangerous as mild oversteer, and there was no mention of snap oversteer which causes a lot of wrecks. Everything I've tracked that is...

SHOULD TESLA BE WORRIED? (2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB Starts at $10k Less Than a Tesla Model Y)

A lot has changed since Oct 2019. A lot. The EPA for the Bolt is 217 hwy. My point - "Not until the charging infrastructure for DCFC EVs is up to the standard that Tesla has set.". It was actually Nissan who set the bar, hence why the only DCFC adapter Tesla sells is a CHAdeMO, but more...

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

If somebody told me in 2000 that 20" rims would be mainstream, I'd have laughed in their face. Yes, there are more choices in 20" tires, but there are plenty of choices in 21" already. Even the Tesla Model S used 21" rims as have most major mfrs.

SHOULD TESLA BE WORRIED? (2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB Starts at $10k Less Than a Tesla Model Y)

Trivia - There are only 53 Hydrogen Fuel Cell refueling sites in North America, and all but one are in California. California is the only state that doesn't realize that FCEV's are a failed technology that has a larger CO2 footprint than a CNG car (hydrogen is cracked from natural gas).

SHOULD TESLA BE WORRIED? (2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB Starts at $10k Less Than a Tesla Model Y)

When was the last time you extensively drove a CCS car? (DCFC is all fast charging formats, Tesla Supercharger, CCS, CHAdeMO) 2018 - Was not possible to go interstate on all routes, all CCS /CHAdeMO is under 100kW. 2019 - First >100kW CCS is deployed, it becomes possible to travel coast to...

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

So far I'm seeing a bit more than EPA range (293 hwy) in the 2022 R1T w/21" wheels at 70 mph, about 315 actual. My region has light hilly terrain, from 50' to 1600', and moderate winds. It might do better after the tires get some miles on them, and I don't have anything in the bed so I can...

    2022 Rivian Initial Review

Irony - The Rivian with the Large Battery (all at this point) fails to gather any California EV program support, it's too heavy by 32 lbs for one program (8532lb GVWR) and too expensive for the other (over $45k). This is the EV capitol of the US.

Picture of the tunnel somebody snapped at a local Cars and Coffee event. Note the end of the driver's door, and you can see the front of the removable flashlight, and the tunnel door flap is a bit open where the air hose for the compressor goes. The tunnel doors can be used as a chair or a...

The 'total cost of ownership' when there is a big price difference can be misleading especially in California. California has a valuation-based annual 'registration' fee which is often the highest or second highest cost of ownership. So when a car has a MSRP of $50k versus $35k, the higher...

I'm comparing the Hyundai/Kia EVs to gasoline versions. While the I5 and EV6 are much better than earlier efforts, they are not superior enough to gasoline models (Tucson) to justify the higher price (>$15k more) of the EV version. Of course that is just my opinion. The body styling of EV6 is...

Research the modern history of South Korea if you have doubts about it. So far, the IONIQ5/EV6 is not significantly better than gas SUVs at the same actual price point (ADM on I5/EV6). They are generic people movers.

And you don't think South Korea is an authoritarian state? Abortion was illegal until 2021, and gender-typing was a crime until 2008. Nearly all abortions in SK are to kill off females. If females are a bother, SK is a great place to live I guess. I grew up in a country that claimed US...

It can be an attempt to acquire money by deception. When Elon oversaw construction of the November 2016 video and allowed it to say "Awaiting Regulatory Approval" when he knew the video was not their FSD software, and that regulatory approval was least of the limitations of the system, while...

Blog Toyota Announces Plans for 15 EVs

My thoughts on EV DCFC charging in 2021 - Driving "the bottom of the battery" opens you up to potentially crushing delays. Overcrowded charging locations. All hookups are disabled or heavily nerfed. To reduce the possibility of these delays, having a CHAdeMO adapter can be a good idea...
