2016 Model S Refresh Mega-thread

People are speculating a refresh will drop the value of their just delivered car 5-10%. There is something that already dropped it at least that far, driving it out of the service center the first time.

When the dual drive cars were introduced, it hurt the value of the classic cars, especially the P85 classics. This was mostly because both the range and performance jumped quite a bit. The market became flooded with P85 owners dumping their old cars and upgrading to a P85D. The performance of the newer 85D was close to the original P85 which further hurt its value.

The introduction of Ludicrous mode also hurt non-Ludicrous equipped P85Ds because there are people who are seeking the highest performance possible, but for those happy with the regular Model S it didn't make much difference.

Other than possibly the 100KWh battery, the upcoming update doesn't show promise of any big performance changes. The changes are mostly cosmetic and creature comforts. If the value for used early 2016s drops at all, it's not going to drop much. Regular depreciation from the car being used is going to be a much bigger percentage of the value drop.

Huh. If that's the new S nose, I wonder what the plan is for a car without power?

The old S had you prying off the nosecone to reach the remote terminals, which obviously wouldn't work without a nose cone. They'd have to do something like the X, I suppose.
