After 10 months of waiting, I drove off yesterday in my new S. All looked well upon inspection. Rule #1, don't put much stock in all the hype people are saying or complaining about on these threads. I was glued to these threads since April 2021. Fortunately, I can now go on living life w/o following "what if's" on these threads now that I have the car. :)

This specific forum is 8 1/2 months old, can you show me where people complained about the headlights here on the refresh before they heard the rumor that new ones might be coming. I heard complaints about the controls on the Yoke steering wheel and even the Yoke but no complaints about headlights here.
You are absolutely right, on this THREAD, which was created for people who do not have the Model S yet, people did not complain about light output on cars. How could they, they never drove one with the poor light output.

This FORUM is full of complaints. Use the search function.

True enough but this thread is also choke full of people who have owned multiple model S in the past. The light complaint was news to me and by the responses I have read here over the months to many other owners too.
This forum attracts a specific personality. Majority of Tesla owners and prospective owners are not on TMC for sure. I for one have owned 2 cars and I have never found occasion to use the checklist pdf for example and I suspect the majority of owners don't either.

Being also in Chicago area I must have A/S tires.
roc-noc you mentioned you checked several times before your car was built and they told you that A/S tires would be put on the car.
Who exactly did you check with. Since I ordered in July online I have not spoken to anyone and really don't know who to call. Should I just call the Tesla national number?
Probably like you, I ordering my car online and had no relationship with a Tesla salesperson. My closest delivery center was Schaumburg, IL and I live about 80 minutes from there so it is not convenient to drop in and chat.

I started calling the toll free number after waiting about 3 months with no estimated delivery on my account. Eventually, the estimated dates appeared although they kept moving. Every time I called them, I asked about the tires and the company line was "it should come with A/S tires". I asked them for a guarantee on that but they refused to put it in writing. They suggested that I just refuse delivery until one arrives with the tires I want.

When the car finally arrived, they notified me and I had a contact for the Schaumburg office. I called and asked for the Schaumburg sales office. After I was transferred, I asked the phone salesperson's name and asked him to check to see if my car arrived with A/S tires. I took notes so I had his name when he came back on the phone and the service department determined that my VIN (car) had A/S tires installed.

So when I arrived the next day to pick it up and discovered that the tires were summer tires (I googled the tire model to confirm) I asked to speak to the manager. I told him that I required A/S tires and that was the only thing holding up my payment and acceptance. I had shown them the bank check from DCU when I arrived but told them I need to inspect the vehicle before paying.

The manager was very nice and said he would make it happen (which he did). I think he understood that I was serious and ordering a set of tires was the easy solution to complete my delivery and move on to the next.

After 10 months of wait, picked up my LR yesterday afternoon. Did not see any issues at all. Not a BMW for sure, but not bad at all.. (maybe I was expecting the worst based on the feedback from others). Had A/S conti's and good all the way around. 2 things I am not sure of is the noise of the heat pump and how the center console box light is supposed to operate (i.e shuts off when I keep it fully open and on when partially open.
All pieces were there (privacy cover for trunk included). And boy does it drive awesome.. Was little bit annoyed I was the last batch of the old headlights, but not going to dwell on it and move on.
Still debating the need for PPF and will explore ceramic in the next few weeks. AWESOME car and perverbial "Worth the wait... Folks".... Hope you get your vin's soon.. BIG THANKS to all, to keep my sanity and interest in the car over the past 10 months and learned a lot..... Will lurk around for a week of so to detox from the past 10 months of checking this forum 10 times a day and will fade away join y'all in other groups.

I skipped the PPF and went for full ceramic coating. My thoughts were that I don't need the PPF because I drive low miles without much traffic. Mostly driving to work and home and usually not during rush hours. I have 1368 miles on it in just over 2 months. Now I am thinking about getting the front covered in PPF.

My car is black and the primer is a light color. I already found 2 tiny chips on the hood when I hand washed it last week. I also bought the mud flaps for the front wheels and will install them next week. Now I have become hyper-aware of all the dirt and grime on the road that cars are kicking up. Most pickup trucks do not have mud flaps on the back wheels. And don't get me started on the morons with oversize wheels outside of their fenders.

Congrats on your delivery! Looking forward to some pictures if you have the time.

There's a thread about the console light. Seems like it's a known issue for some but not all. Thread

Ive been shopping for ceramic coatings all morning..mind sharing who you used? We aren't too far apart. Ive also debated PPF vs. ceramic. If i did PPF it would just be partial or full front + maybe rockers...idk...im cheap lol.

Going for tint on Saturday

Took delivery today in Princeton NJ. RN1153 ordered July 2021. Biggest issue was it had summer tires. They stepped up and sent an uber to bring up all season tired from the Cherry Hill NJ location. Took me time to do all of my checks anyway so wasn't a big deal. A few small issues came up from the checklist provided here - they took care of all of it. Missing the privacy shelf in the trunk - gave me written confirmation that it's coming and they'll deliver it to me when ready.

Great experience.
Which checklist did you use?

Which checklist did you use?
A. Verify pre-delivery vehicle records

  • Check for the correct full name and address on your paperwork.
  • Confirm the vehicle’s VIN matches your paperwork.
  • Bring written or digital proof of your down payment having been made and the final payment details
  • Bring a printed insurance card.
B. Exterior inspection

  • Inspect body exterior paint for defects.
  • Inspect vehicle underside (front and rear) for signs of scraping, or damage.
  • Check for any obvious body panel misalignment, or gaps. Especially the frunk gap, charge port, front and rear lights flush with hood/panels, glass roof panels aligned, no leaks.
  • Inspect wheel rims for damage, and that all 4 valve stem covers on tires.
  • Inspect all glass for signs of distortion, scratches, or cracks.
  • Check for proper windshield and windshield trim installation.
  • Inspect all edges of the roof glass panel and rear window.
  • Test all doors to ensure they open and close without unreasonable effort or sound. Check paint in areas such as door hinges, that are not visible when doors are closed.
  • Test opening and closing of the trunk with auto-close button. The door should latch and seal automatically.
  • Test opening and closing of the frunk. Check paint in areas that are not visible when frunk and trunk are closed.
  • Check for the towing eye under the frunk mat, and that it can be easily removed.
  • Ensure door windows auto-close completely when doors are closed.
  • Check all front and rear exterior lights for signs of internal condensation.
  • With all doors open, inspect the weather seals around door gaps and windows. NOTE: Some deliveries have reported seals being “overlapped” incorrectly. This is easily fixed by hand in a few seconds, but worth noting.
C. In the driver seat

  • Check for any error messages on the display screen.
  • Touch the “Tesla T” at the top of the screen to bring up the “About Your Tesla” window. Tap the unicorn drawing to access the Sketch Pad. Leave the Sketch Pad up for a minute to make sure there are no phantom touches happening on the display.
  • Gently test the driver and passenger door emergency release.
  • Check all 4 windows to ensure they open and close properly.
  • Make sure AC/Heat works at full power without strange noises.
  • Test the sound system to ensure all speakers are working (move fade/balance to all four points to verify)
  • Test the steering wheel position controls to ensure proper operation.
  • Press the center of the steering wheel to make sure the vehicle’s horn works.
  • Check windshield for distorted view.
  • Test the windshield wipers.
  • Test the rearview camera.
  • Check side mirrors for proper operation of folding and position adjustment (minimal noise).
  • Check sun-visor operation and mirror condition.
  • Check the rearview mirror for any warping or distortion.
D. Interior inspection

  • Inspect interior seat upholstery, door surfaces, dash, liner & carpets (including rear seats, frunk, and trunk).
  • Check the windshield and windows for ripples in the glass.
  • Check left and right clothing hook operation.
  • Check all seat belts for proper operation.
  • Both front seats don’t squeak when moving (check all directions of motion).
  • Check the rear seats for proper fold-down operation.
  • Try to lift the bottom of the back seat to ensure it is securely attached to its base.
E. Connectivity inspection

  • Test connectivity in all USB ports (1 USB-A/1 USB-C in the front, 2 USB-C in the rear).
  • Check 12 volt DC receptacle has power.
  • Test connectivity of wireless phone charger.
  • Music streaming & phone streaming work, radio reception is good.
  • Test both key cards to ensure they work on B-pillar. Keep one key card on your person in case the phone app does not operate properly.
  • Pair your smartphone to your vehicle over Bluetooth. Check functions work (unlock, precondition, etc)
F. Lighting inspection

  • Vanity mirror lights, Front overhead driver & passenger lights.
  • Rear overhead left & right side lights.
  • Driver & passenger foot wells, Driver & passenger door pockets
  • Rear left & right door pockets.
  • Driver & passenger door puddle lights.
  • Console middle compartment light, Console rear compartment light.
  • All door latch button lights, All door window button lights.
  • Steering wheel control lights.
  • Glovebox light (check glovebox opening and closing).
  • Frunk light.
  • Trunk lights (2).
  • Fog lights.
  • Headlights (low & high-beam).
  • Front park lights.
  • Front turn signal lights, Left & right side turn signal lights.
  • Rear running lights.
  • Brake lights.
G. Inspect charging ability

  • Check the charge port door for proper operation and alignment.
  • Check charge port indicator light.
  • Ensure the vehicle will accept a charge.
  • Check the mobile charging kit with cable. Test it to ensure it works and each connector charge, latch, unlatch
  • J1772 adapter.
  • NEMA 5–15 120v adapter.
  • NEMA 14–50 240v adapter.
  • Test supercharger on site.
H. Final items

  • Ask your delivery specialist to make sure that your car is marked as DELIVERED in Tesla’s network. There have been reports of cars being delivered and the phone app doesn’t allow log in the following day.
  • Make sure you have copies of all paperwork necessary for good documentation of your purchase, including a copy of your signed purchase agreement. If your delivery specialist suggests that you can get your documents electronically on your Tesla account, ask for paper copies you can take with you anyway

I just picked up my black/black car a couple weeks ago. i opted for front PPF plus lower rockers and rear fenders. Also did a couple applications of ceramic and front mud flaps. I felt like that was pretty cost-effective given that I’ve had a few Tesla’s and it does seem like the paint they use is particularly susceptible to rock chip damage. I posted some photos a couple pages back if interested.

I submitted a service request for the console light and now they want $28 processing fee. Waiting for Customer Service to call me back... They just know how to just make you not enjoy the experience. I am not that picky and sure there are a few rock chips et al that i likely missed being giddy and excited at the delivery center....

I took delivery a week or so ago and dropped the car off for front PPF plus lower rockers and rear fenders as well as a couple applications of ceramic….and….installed Martian forged wheels. I really like the way it came out…my photography skills are pretty weak but here are a couple pics.

Tires: I was given a choice of either Conti AS tires or Pirelli P Zero Summer Performance Tires. I don’t like the Contis (personal pref for Michelins for AS and winter tires here in the Northeast). I definitely wanted the Pirellis for Spring and Summer and I’m not planning on much/any driving for the next couple weeks so I took delivery with Pirellis. Spring can’t come to NY soon enough!

Delivery: Flawless. Mt Kisco SC has done a good job every time in my experience (fifth car I’ve purchased there).

Build: Very good. No issues. I’ve driven less than 200 miles so far so I’m really just commenting on fit, finish, aesthetics at this point. Hopefully mechanically equal to or better than the fit and finish. Drive has been great initially so we shall see.

Other stuff: Installed the Tesla F&R mats. I’ll put the Tesmanian trunk, trunk well and frunk set in this weekend. Also, bought the RPM matte carbon fiber spoiler. That’ll be a weekend install too. Got the Snap plate.

Yeah, so here it is…..
Love the car!
I was going over your photos and wasn't sure what I was looking at on the drivers door. Is the trim at the bottom of the window lifted at the rear? I'm hoping it's just the angle and reflection I'm seeing.

For those getting Pirelli summers living in cold weather climates? May want to go to Pirellis website to see their warranty policy.
Driving on or even storing the summer tires in temps in the 30's immediately voids ANY warranty on the tires...

Congrats! Enjoy your car and you deserve it. Interesting you mention the console lights as I did not check to see if it lights up. I did not go to my car in the evening and now my car is with the detailer and if I am lucky I can pick it up next Sat Mar 5th or else on Mar 7th Monday...

You have a good eye! Yes, the trim piece on the driver side door is attached with adhesive and I pressed it back into place, although I may ask service department to re-do the adhesive bc it should adhere better than that. This was really the only material misalignment or fit/finish issue.
