2021 Model S Rear Liftgate Cinching Actuator Problems

I recently purchased a 2021 Model S and I am having problems with the liftgate not closing properly. The liftgate closes fine and gets to the latch where the cinching actuator actuates (maybe a second or so) and then releases. The liftgate stays latched but the liftgate shows cracked open on the display. I have pulled the carpet lower cover and I can see the cinching actuator pulley rotate and pull the cable and then it release. Just to see what happens, I unbolted the cinching actuator and removed the cable to the latch. When I mechanically close the latch, it spins the cinching actuator about 270 degrees CCW and then returns CW back to 0 where it started. Is there some logic or resistance in the latch that it is not seeing so it releases... or is it likely a faulty cinching mechanism? Any advice before I go throwing parts at it?
