Massive fire destroys, damages more than 3,500 rental cars near Florida airport

This huge fleet of rental cars, parked closely together, JUST HAPPENED to all burn at a time when car rentals are slow and revenues are down? Hmmmm..... sounds mighty suspicious to me.

There must not have been a single Tesla in that parking lot, or we'd know about it first on the news!

I think it was just stupidity. They likely had a ton more cars than their airport parking lots could handle due to people not renting them. They moved the cars to a field somewhere a drive from the airport until rental activities pick back up again. The cars showed up to a field with hot exhaust and catalytic converters igniting the long dry grass. Once the fire started at the remote location it just spread and they didn't have any way to immediately put it out. I doubt it's anything more complicated than that.

If that's the case, then maybe it was an accounting trick, or a ploy to get a huge tax write off or something. But I don't see any accident here.

I do work with Budget Avis group and they are self insured...

Insurance is how all the rental companies make money so it is doubtful it was intentional

I live near that airport and I'm close to the fire depts. here. Someone left a car running on the dry grass.
