93 mile Model 3?

They seemed to have discontinued/hidden the Model Y SR because it was not up to standards and now they come out with a 93 mile version model 3? Tesla starts advertising Model 3 with 93 miles of range on its website in Canada - Electrek

The reason is obvious as the $7500 incentive kicks in on EV's below $50,000. After incentive it comes out to $38,889 CDN.

It is a trick to reap the govt incentive. Later you can pay extra to unlock the full battery power.

No way it is dedicated battery, has to be software restricted. So on the plus side it should be very fast to charge and lots of unused battery, so degradation should not be a problem, assuming the software restriction works that way. For the stay at home parent who only needs something to get the kids to/from school, pick up groceries, and other local errands, it might be a viable option. If they ever need more range later on, cough up the money to unlock it, no hardware to replace. Smart move by Tesla.

This option was added so the Canada incentive is applicable to the 3 SR+. The incentive program says: the base trim must be less than 45kCAD, and you are allowed a max of 10kCAD in options. The existence of this silly 150km version makes the SR+ eligible. This model is not meant to be sold, it's just there to satisfy an incentive program that was badly written. NO, that version CANNOT be upgraded later to get more range, even though it is software-locked, I believe that's also a part of the program...
Note that it has been available for a long time but was not on the website. It seems the Canadian government got tired of being tricked and forced Tesla to show the option.
