Interested in this as well. Can this be done by mobile service? How's the fit afterwards? Any squeeks and rattles, loose panels?Has anyone added the tow package to their model Y (I have a 2022) after delivery?
Will Tesla enable the software tow features?I did. But instead of getting it from Tesla, I bought a used one for $300. It's the OEM part not some 3rd party hitch. Installed it myself. Saved $1k.
That is always a concern with me... there were a few people on the forums that added OEM passenger lumbar to their cars and Tesla disabled it with an update. I guess its not a problem if you're hauling bikes, but if I were towing a trailer, I'd want to be assured Tesla would update the software. Will Tesla enable the software tow features?
What did it cost you? Was it worth it (does it work well)? Thanks!I did. No, cannot be done by mobile service. You need to order the tow hitch and Tesla will ship it directly to the Tesla Service Center. You will need to call and set up an appointment.
$1,300. That includes labor cost. I like it but I only use it for bikes. No issues here. What did it cost you? Was it worth it (does it work well)? Thanks!
Hmm, so the key part to lock it would go on the left? I'll have to try it out.@Qbenjamin I have a tow package enroute to my local service center for installation. On another thread, someone posted this link to a right angle lock. Have you seen this? Looks like it would be helpful...
I bought one of those locks, but haven't had my hitch installed yet. I'm not sure if the lock has to go on the left or whether it can go on the right as well. Is there more space on the right side? The website hitch photo has a left-looking perspective, so I'm not sure...Hmm, so the key part to lock it would go on the left? I'll have to try it out.
There's more than enough space on the right (about 12"), the left side only has a couple of inches before you're pressing up against the trailer harness mount. Absolutely ridiculous design.I bought one of those locks, but haven't had my hitch installed yet. I'm not sure if the lock has to go on the left or whether it can go on the right as well. I received my Curt hitch lock and installed it yesterday...Works great. Now if only they'd re-design the bumper to allow normal clearance to secure all of the trailer back-up hooks.I bought one of those locks, but haven't had my hitch installed yet. I included the factory tow hitch with our order. I installed aftermarket tow hitches on previous vehicles, including removing bumper, but I was too paranoid to do it on the Y.i haven't tested it yet but the harness is there. i was able to plug it in. i bet once i plug in a trailer it will show im in tow mode.
anyone here who had tesla install a tow hitch? if so, do you show the additional tow functions even w/o attaching trailer?
