Not exactly. The key fob does not get programmed. The key fobs serial number gets programmed into the cars key memory.
How long did this programming take. I just destroyed one of mine (hint: Don't leave them on the roof of the car...) and need to get it replaced. The service center suggested a Mobile Ranger visit and that it could take a few hours which just doesn't make any sense.Tesla service center successfully programed the key fob, yeah!

I paid $59.95 for an OEM key fob, seemed reasonable to me.
Have you checked current price from Tesla? Rumor is they are much more reasonable.
I sure would not want to buy from a third party.

A source/link where to buy them and how to get them programmed to your car would be helpful.
