AGL’s “Night Saver Energy Plan”

I have recently signed up to the AGL Night Saver EV Plan as I have finally given up on the Tesla Virtual Powerplant ever getting the algorithms to actually work correctly.
Can anyone here who has changed from the Tesla product comment on how long it takes for Tesla to hand back control of the PW to the customer after changing providers?

Similarly elsewhere in the NEM (QLD, NSW, VIC, ACT, TAS and SA), except that no-one else has as many distributors as Victoria does. South Australia, the ACT and Tasmania all have just one distributor covering each of them.
One things for sure, with no competition they know how to profit from setting high prices too

These are 30min intervals. The 8c starts at midnight until 6am. On weekends I don’t have a departure time set so it kicks off about 1am but during the week it starts at whatever random time it needs to finish and precondition.
My bill has definitely dropped.

None of the distributors have competition (except for "go completely off-grid") - they're the ones that own the "poles & wires" that take power from the long-distance transmission infrastructure and distribute it to the consumers.

For this reason though, they don't get to set their own prices. They make spending and pricing proposals to the AER which have to be approved - the spending on the basis that it's required and not excessive, the pricing on the basis that it recovers their costs plus a regulated return on capital.

The single distributor across SA means that those in the city are effectively cross-subsidising those in the outback that are a lot more expensive to service.

Which one is that? OVO or AGL? I still have a few hundred bucks left in alinta - they have highest feed-in and lowest daily charge, but they don't refund it. So I'll have to be with them for a few more months and then move on.
Once the month ticks over I’ll be closer to have been on AGL for that month so my “grey” peak stats will disappear.
And this is what the guys on here had been telling me while I was waiting for the car..
Don’t sweat too much about charging, you’ll mostly be doing it at home anyway.

I'm currently on an Origin Family & Friends plan in SE Melbourne and it's coming to an end soon (12 month special rate ending).

I've also been looking at moving back to AGL (was with them prior to changing to Origin) to take advantage of a $150 welcome credit, before changing to the EV Energy Plan.

The midnight-6am $0.08/kWh tariff works for me - I WFH 50% of the week and on my office days, I can schedule charging from midnight to 6am before I head out. Likewise on the days that I WFH too.

I don't have solar and at the moment not planning to, so the cheap overnight rate works for me.

Before leaving Origin, have you checked out their EV Power Up plan? A bit more versatile, as you can charge at 8c just about anytime.

I did have a look at that as well, however my Origin Family and Friends discount is coming to an end next month and even despite the $0.08/kWh rate, I'd be better off moving to AGL's regular Value Saver plan and obtaining a $150 sign-up credit, then changing to the EV Energy Plan.

Not only that but the rate that Origin has offered is significantly more than my current plan, and it's a beta.

The new plan if I stay with Origin after my F&F discount is over, is dearer by 35% for the daily supply charge and the usage charges are 15% more.

In comparison, AGL's Value Saver plan is only 5% more for both the supply charge and usage charges, plus I'd get a $150 sign-up credit which is around 1.5 months of electricity for me (probably would be closer to a months' worth once I get the Y - we've both got ICE cars at the moment and our monthly electricity bill is around $100ish - once I get the Y, I'd estimate around another $50/month for charging at our current rates).

From there after I get the sign-up bonus, I could then change to the EV plan for night charging.

Yeah, fair enough. I am on the Origin 360 EV plan, so my rates are far cheaper than AGL

How long after your service was active until the $150 sign-up credit was applied?
I think it was a day or two, then I switched. Because the credit was already in my account, I wasn’t too fussed about it. I was more worried about the potential loss of the $100 extra sign in bonus (Westpac customer), but that came through a month later as well as planned. But with charging about 150kWh per week between our vehicles, waiting a month to switch to the EV plan would have cost us about $75 in extra electricity anyway.
