An Unhealthy Obsession

I have an unhealthy obsession with Tesla cars. I wouldn't dare call myself Tesla's number 1 fan but Tesla consumes my thoughts. Every time I'm on the road, I am actively scanning for Teslas. And when I see a Model X, it makes my day a little brighter. The problem with that is I admire the car as it is driving away which has led to some close calls with getting into accidents. What makes it worse is I think I'd be okay with that because in my warped thinking, my car gets totaled and it brings me one step closer to having a conversation with my wife about getting a Tesla. Unhealthy.

Speaking of my significant other, she doesn't want to hear about "Tesla" anymore. At first, she was supportive and dealt with my ramblings of "one day..." I overdid it. She got to the point of starting to root against me getting one because I talked about Tesla too much. Now I have to bite my tongue. I used to have a turrets-like response when we were driving together when I'd spot a Tesla. "Tesla!" I would say maybe hoping that I was planting a seed in her subconscious or something. Not anymore. I think she feels like I put much more thought and effort into Tesla than in our relationship. Unhealthy.

Tesla got me to try something new with the hopes of being able to obtain one someday; I signed up for etrade and traded stock for the first time. Again, with my delusional thinking, I daydreamed that I could buy a Tesla by buying Tesla (stock) and that would solve all my problems. I put my life savings into Tesla and knew that it would be just a matter of time before I'd make enough to buy my dream car. In actuality, the way the stock market has been, I'm moving further and further away from my dream. Totally unhealthy.

I'm a rational person (although it may seem otherwise) who would probably be driving around a Tesla if I were single. However, I am happily married with two young boys and with the above average income that we bring in, being a Model X owner is just out of reach. But, i still perseverate. I try to think of ways I can make it happen. I've scoured the internet for salvaged Teslas, I applied for a Tesla delivery specialist job just because I read somewhere I would get an employee discount (I later learned no such thing exists). I recently got a real estate license hoping some extra side money is the way to do it. That led to thinking, "oh! I can lease one and write it off as a business expense now that I'm an independent contractor!" Healthier?

I'm not sure what I'm looking for here. I guess I'm reaching out with the hopes that others can relate in one way or another. Maybe I'm looking for a support group? Or, simply well wishes and positive vibes? Just sharing my enthusiasm with fellow enthusiasts I suppose. I am a late Model 3 reservation holder and if I receive mine in time to qualify for the $7500 rebate I will probably "settle." I'm secretly hoping I don't qualify and, by then, I'm thinking there'll be a used Model X within my price range because a Model X makes more sense for our family.

Looking forward to updating everyone when this foolish man's dreams finally come true!
Can you please give us an update after 4 years? :)
