This made me lol today (I’m easily amused these days).

If you open your trunk and have the right light you’ll see the trunk “bumpers” leave Mercedes indentations where they hit the car, on both sides.

I was told by a car shop that a lot of parts used in Teslas are actually Mercedes.

Mines and another definitely has the Mercedes logo as well but yes regarding the Mercedes/Daimler parts. Daimler actually bailed out Tesla back in 2009/2010 and Elon is always grateful of that.

Whose to say that design/part wasn't also used in Mercedes and they were just using the same supply chain?

A more likely source is a supplier for another or a few other geographically local (North America) manufacturers. VAG, SoA, ToA, etc.

Cross-ref with MB parts bin and be the one to say. It will be a futile effort as the likelihood is probably close to 0.
