Germany has a federal law that every Taxi has to have the color "light ivory". (Well, technically, it has to be color RAL 1015 from color palette RAL 840 HR)
So yup, they had to repaint it

Uber in Germany acts as a middle man only. They tried to do the "anybody with a car can drive" thing and failed (NYT Jan 2016). And in the two cities they're still servicing (Munich and Berlin), they basically just connect the passenger with either a licensed "beige" taxi, or with a professional Livery service (they don't have to be beige, but they still have certain rules about their cars and training). Lyft doesn't operate there at all.
