Best way to send a dashcam video?

While watching "Wham Bam Teslacam" on YouTube, I notice that they often speak about "giving the Teslacam footage to...." law enforcement, the other drivers, etc. But the way it is said, it sounds like they do so immediately. I realize one could show the video footage on the screen instantly, and could email a copy of the footage once one got back home, but is there a means to copy/transfer/send the files right from the Tesla? A link perhaps to offer them?

I don't think so. After you save the video to the USB drive you would need to upload the original 10 minute video clip to your computer. Then edit the video to be as short as possible so the length/size of the file is manageable. You could upload the file to DropBox and then share it, also Google Drive. My experience with emailing dash cam footage is I needed to edit the footage to under 10 seconds maximum otherwise the clip was too large for the email services I use (AOL, Gmail.)

I wouldn’t even try sending a video via email. Just save it to a cloud storage as ^^^^ says and share a link to it. I use iCloud links all the time when sharing pictures and videos

Today = You unplug your Sentry cam storage device with the videos on it and plug it into a computer to share it with people.
Future = You view and share videos directly in the Tesla app.

You guys are also forgetting that almost every police officer has a laptop sitting in his car as well. Can just let them pull it directly off the USB drive themselves. Having said that, with this future need in mind I replaced the Tesla provided USB drive with one that has a lightning connector on the other end and is compatible with my phone. So I can just pull the drive out of the glovebox, plug it into my phone, and zap it over to anyone right then and there. Could also copy everything down to my phone then just hand the drive to the officer to keep. I wouldn't begrudge the cost of the USB drive if it helped them catch someone who had damaged my car or caused a major highway incident and injuries.

From an IT perspective that would be a complete nightmare. Those cop car laptops should have their usb disabled I would assume. Law enforcement should use devices and software in that scenario, maybe giving them a usb would work but they really should only be plugging that into a forensic gathering device.

Sorry, I wasn't clear what I meant. The laptop mounted in the car almost certainly has the USB ports disabled. But that's why they all take their own personal laptop too. Gotta have something to sit there and watch porn and netflix on while they are "doing paperwork".

You connect the USB drive to your phone and transfer/edit/email the files. If you have a USB SSD drive, these require supplemental power when connected to your phone. If you have iPhone, get this one. You won’t need to plug in a lighting cable unless you are using an SSD drive like Samsung T5/T7.

Just use a USB on the Go connector, and plug the thumb drive into your phone to copy needed footage when necessary... My wife has a thumb drive, where if you slide it one way, a USB-A connector is exposed, and you slide it the other way, a USB-C connector is exposed.

When I was in an accident, I saved the footage to the usb, then told the police on the scene that I had footage as nobody really knew what was going on. We sat in the cop car and watched it on the mounted laptop in his SUV. He even asked for a copy.

I have a Samsung T5 and an iPhone 12 Pro Max. You can copy from the SSD using this method;

After the video is on my iPhone I plug a cheap usb flash into the camera kit 3 usb port. Next copy the videos from my iPhone to the usb drive for passing on to who ever needs it.

My car witnessed a robbery today so I downloaded and sent the clips to the store manager - large files that I thought would blow up my gmail. But it would have been helpful to be able to send a clip directly from the car. Or, absent that feature, I’d like to find a convenient PC-based viewer/editor that would let me view multiple cameras in unison and edit to pull still images or shorter video clips. Any recommendations?

Post the unedited, uncompressed files to a DropBox account or Google Drive. The police forensics analyst will be able to extract the maximum detail from the video if they have the original Dashcam files.
