Can you turn the screen off?

Noticed this too when I went to the drive in this weekend. There is just no way to turn the screen off.
I thought ah yes, I’ll do screen cleaning mode but how annoying and bright that new instruction page is.
So I next said ah yes, camp mode. And after a few minutes the campfire came on, luckily with no sound like romance mode..
but I thought for sure there’s a monitor off toggle in camp mode, if I tap the screen or something that goes away, right?
I mean, if I were camping and trying to sleep, I’d eventually want DARKNESS. Crazy how that didn’t come up when they were developing it.
I guess the screen does make a good coat rack for a hoodie or a towel. Need somewhere to wipe my hands after the popcorn anyway :)
I didn't tried but would it be possible to lower the luminosity using the voice command?

@Dan203 I noticed some screen protector, or you can just use a black towel.

I was wondering the use of such cover, may be to keep the car stealth at night when Sentry is on and detect some motion?
(but you would also need to cover the front headlights and the rear read lights, or find a way to turn them off)

I just got this today and it looks great. Nice and thick so you can't see anything when it's on. Next time I go to the drive in I'll be good to go. Thanks for the tip

If you hold it it restarts, if you press once it just turns off the screen. Have you tried this before you go around downvoting other peoples suggestions?

Does it just turn the screen off, or the whole infotainment system? The trick was at the drive-in you had to use the radio for sound so if it turns of the infotainment system then this wouldn’t work.

But I'll try it out and see

I just tried it and it keeps turning on the voice command. Sorry, I could have sworn it worked before the current updates. I even remember using it on a long road trip at night.

Yeah Tesla makes changes like this. Screen cleaning mode use to turn off the whole screen too. But you had to read the message that said to hold your finger on the screen for 5 seconds to turn it back on. I'm guessing enough people didn’t read that and it resulted in a service call that they changed it so now it displays a pretty bright line of white text and a button on the screen the whole time.

The cover I got should be perfect. I stuck it in the center console so if I ever need it I'll have it.

So I accidentally turned off the display today. I don’t know if it’s been mentioned already but imma say it anyway. I pushed and hold both button on the steering wheel just to test it out and the screen turned off. The car was still running.
P.S. it’s a Tesla Model 3

Thats the 2 finger salute, and it’s not for turning off your display. It’s for rebooting your infotainment computer. Although for a minute or so the result is your display goes blank, but it should have come back up shortly. As you noticed, it does not take critical driving functions away so it is safe to do on the road as long as you don’t require to see your speedometer for a little bit.
