What is it about the quarter glass that costs so much?

Apparently it's because that pane is glued into place, and removal/replacement requires a complete replacement of all the chrome trim around the windows on that side. Maybe this epidemic of smashed windows will lead to some rethinking of that design so it will be easier to replace in the future, who knows.

That's unfortunate and thanks for the incidental heads up... Being a thief, a good one, is a very lucrative line of work and even though you're occasionally caught, the penalties aren't anywhere near severe enough... Society has to make a choice and so far the choice has been to let these people reoffend at alarming rates due to an unwillingness, and more recently inability due to crowding, to do what's needed to address this problem. No way you can stop "all" theft but things can be done to significantly increase the deterrent...

The SF Bay Area, where I live, is ripe with property crime miscreants these days... They're everywhere... It's totally overwhelmed local law enforcement to the point where most just take your information and throw it into the ever increasing pile...

I haven't tried this but this youtube video shows it someone could get into the frunk...not sure if it's true. you know how it is these days, people would do all kinds of things to get view. In anycase, link and fast forward to 11:00 or so.

Its oh-so useful to us for folks to keep posting this method (with accompanying clearly instructional video - to be sure we get it right) to break into the frunk. After all, we all know thieves can't read or understand instructions. They surely have been barred or can not read the TMC forum. They would n-e-v-e-r have thought or been guided by anyone to read this forum to see how to get in or ideas for getting into a S or X, huh?
