Stimulus package: Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt is asking for a $5billion bailout for the U.S. porn industry

I'm glad someone is making the point. I like the fact these guys are being so blunt about it.

Senator Corker Drops In on Detroit’s Show - NYTimes.com

Mr. Corker, the outspoken Republican who voted against aid for carmakers last month, spent several hours touring the North American International Auto Show surrounded by a crowd of reporters.

He said the visit confirmed his feelings about the companies: that they were an important part of the economy but that their labor costs and other operational aspects needed to change before federal assistance could help them succeed.

GM calls for public/private partnership for future of auto industry

Right now, there are quite a few competing technologies and the lawmakers could sway the development of one or two with the right set of subsidies or investments and automakers could then focus their R&D budgets on those technologies. Energy companies would therefore focus their attention on getting a proper infrastructure in place, which would leave the actual buying of the resulting ready-to-run vehicles to the population at large. Easy, right?

Jaguar's reborn XJ220 | Auto Express News | News | Auto Express

car_photo_300209_7.jpg

Despite Auto Express’s scoop, Jaguar is denying this car exists. A spokesperson insisted that it was not in the company’s product plans… Speaking at the Detroit Motor Show, Jaguar managing director Mike O’Driscoll didn’t rule out the potential to add to the line-up, but claimed the company’s focus at present was solidly on the XK, XF and forthcoming XJ.

Well you wouldn't want to say this was in the works when you had your hand out to the government, would you?

Yet despite the new Jaguar’s huge performance potential, environmental credentials are set to be at the top of the agenda. CO2 emissions will be less than 300g/km, while the powerplant will be capable of running on biofuel-blended petrol – so the newcomer will be one of the cleanest high-performance cars money can buy.

You've got to love the line of green spin they put on these things...
