Important point however is to ensure you have a compatible SMETS2 meter as most SMETS1 are incompatible with EV tariffs and providers are very reluctant to upgrade them..
We have a SMETS 1 meter and I thought this would be an issue, but it seems that some can be upgraded by downloading a software patch as Octopus get a meter reading every 30 mins.

Is yours manufactured by Secure? I believe its the only one they support, I'm out of luck as I have another brand and we are supposed to 'wait' until they roll out the patch.. was supposed to be end of 2021, now end of 2022... not holding my breath
 
Mine is not, Recently when I wanted to Go on. to Intelligent Octopus they asked me to send them a photo of the meter, this is that photo...

About a week later they replied saying that it would work.
And it does.
