Update Day 7

Got an email from my DS asking to email her a copy of the title for my BMW. I had sent them one already when I did the self inspection report they asked for. Anyway sent it off and she said she would hopefully have a trade-in offer for me soon. I hope that's true because I'm hoping to pick up the car a week from tomorrow.

Update:

I do have to fly out to Atlanta to pick up the car. No way around that really. Should be a great way for me to get to know the car over the 13 hour, 870 mile trip back home.

My SA also said she talked to a couple colleagues and they think I won't have any tax implications at all in Georgia. She said that the people drawing up the contracts will confirm for sure.

I also got an email from my delivery advisor introducing himself. He asked me to be patient with him. He said, "...there is a 7-10 day wait from our logistics team to move vehicles."

That might actually work in my favor. I work for a major network so I am pretty busy at work with all this stuff in the news right now and the midterm elections coming up. Will keep everyone posted on what happens.

Um, better plan on more than 13 hours for that trip back home. I bet you spend over three hours charging at Superchargers during that trip - maybe more depending on your driving speed and temperatures. My guess is that you will also be (rightly) conservative and charge extra at each stop since the car is new to you.

Day 9 Update:

I received an email from my DS with the trade-in offer finally. I looked it over and it was a little disappointing. The trade-in estimate they originally sent me on October 5 was about $800 more. It's not a deal breaker but still. I emailed the DS about my disappointment. She called me shortly after and we talked about asking the trade-in department to raise the offer. She agreed to give it a shot and suggested getting our SA involved to help. I'll give it a shot and if they haven't made a decision by Monday afternoon, I'll just accept the offer and take delivery on Friday, November 9th.

Wish me luck.

Day 11 Update

Emailed my SA and DS this morning letting them know that I would like to finalize the trade-in situation today. I am free this Friday and would like to take delivery then.

A couple of hours later, I received an email from my SA saying that she went in and fought with the trade-in team and got me the extra $800 on the trade! Awesome. I couldn't believe it. I was just giving it a shot to see if they would increase their offer by a couple hundred, never expected that much. So I went in and accepted the offer via my Tesla account.

My DS called me shortly after that with dates and times for my delivery! I'm taking delivery Friday morning and driving back to New Jersey after.

I'm starting to get really excited now!

Congrats! I placed my order on Saturday and still have not heard from the delivery specialist, even though I was told they would call me over the weekend. I have to drive 9.5 hours each way to get it (NW Arkansas down to Houston) and am only available this week, so I'm nervously crossing my fingers. I hope my specialist is as helpful as yours!

Here in flyover country (Oklahoma) used Teslas are very hard to find. I went to NYC to look at and drive home a CPO S60. Talk about nervous. If I found an issue that would have been a wasted trip. But the car was in great condition and I had never driven a Tesla before. Man and NYC traffic is crazy for a test drive. The drive home was fairly uneventful. I trusted the navigation to find superchargers and made it home safe and sound.

Day 13 Update

Got my motor vehicle purchase agreement from Tesla today with the final price for the car. Everything looks good.

I also dropped off my trade-in to my local Tesla dealership. They looked over the car, took off the plates and I signed it over to them. I was a little sad to see it go but I'm also excited for the new addition.

Not to derail the original posters thread (congrats Videofrank!), but I went to high school in Fayetteville. Still have family in the area. How are you traveling to Houston? If Lafayette is somewhere near your route, I'd be cool to meet up and talk Tesla and Fayetteville. PM me!

Day 16 Update

It's official. We're home!!!

I arrived earlier today from picking up my new to me, 2015 P85D from Atlanta yesterday morning. The drive was long but good. I learned so much about the car. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous leaving the Tesla parking lot. Tons of butterflies in my stomach. About 2 hours in, I was comfortable. It felt natural. I LOVE this car. It is sooooo fast.

Let me rewind. The delivery was easy. I was late for my appointment by about an hour due to weather delaying my flight. When I got there, they had the car in the showroom. I didn't even recognize it. Its was in better condition than I had hoped. Add me to the list of cars with previous owners info still in the settings of the car. Not only that, also previous owners insurance information in the glove box. Nobody looks through the cars when they clean it?

They asked me to look through the car thoroughly. Make sure, "Your comfortable before we sign papers", he said. He let me look through it for about 30 minutes. (I had a list of things to check). Worst thing is the drivers seat has a little wear. Gray seats rubbing on jeans. No biggie. Also the bezel around the touchscreen is dented in one place. I might change that out. Everything else was good. Even surprised that the car has LTE instead of 3G. Nice! I was going to look into upgrading it.

I signed some papers, handed over the bank check and that was that. So, good delivery experience for me. As a matter of fact, I had a positive all around experience. Hopefully ownership is just as smooth.

Thanks to everyone here for all your advise and ideas.

Day 96 update:

Haven't updated this thread since I picked up the car, but thought this was the perfect place to update.

I STILL have not received my plates or title. 96 days and 2 temp tags later, nothing. My current temp tags expire on Sunday. Called the SC in Georgia to FedEx me a third tag ASAP. Let's see what happens.

Tesla builds a great car, but they do everything else very bad.

Also here is an updated photo of the car now. Looks completely different from the photo above when we first arrived home.
