Yesterday, I was driving on a surface street on cruise when the car beeped at me, dropped out of cruise control, and displayed a “Cruise control unavailable” error message. Since cruise didn’t come back after a minute or so, I rebooted the screen. But when that came back the “Cruise control unavailable” message was still there.
At the next red light I briefly opened my door and lifted myself off the seat, making the car think it should shut down (the steering wheel and seat went to their parked positions). When I sat back down and pressed the brake, the car was back to normal without the error message. Cruise control worked fine from that point on.
I don’t know what caused the error in the first place, but wanted to share my quick fix to get it operating again. Weird stuff.
