Dashcam saves many 2kb files but not the real video [Model 3]

I've been trying to get this dashcam working.
I tried several usb sticks and now resorted to a usb 3.0 sd card reader with a class 10 samsung select 32gb sd card formatted in fat32.
however my files just look like this

How can I fix this ?
am i doing something wrong ?
I did click on the dashcam icon on the screen and it shows a downward then followed by a green checkmark.
i even made sure to pause the recording before ejecting the drive still no use.
