I had the same thought as well when I was getting my car wrapped (the shop is an installer of these as well). In the end, I was distracted by my kids and glanced off the concrete curb on a median going 20 MPH. The Alloygators wouldn't have protected against that.

They restore the damage and then powdercoat. $150 per wheel.
