Much to my suprise and excitement, the wife is completely on board with taking the Model S to Disney next month. We will be going from the middle of September thru the end of the month. The main requested stops are Savannah and St. Augustine for educational purposes. I'm starting to plan the trip, but am completely open to suggestions. Many Thanks!

Let me know how it goes. I'm sure we will be making this trip in a few years (once we have a Model X, and kids).

Possible?? I haven't found a place yet that isn't possible. Montana would be a challenge. There's chargers everywhere, should be easy if you can find stops to charge / be tourists or sleep.

Called the Grand Floridian today and the receptionist had zero suggestions on charging while there. :-(

Check the Florida threads -- there are a few hotels (Hilton, for one) that have chargers in/near Disney.

Sent you a PM with contact info for another Raleigh area Model S owner (who isn't on these forums AFAIK) who has some experience taking that route.

How about the camp wilderness campground for charging?

I looked into that for our most recent trip to WDW earlier this year, but we ended up cancelling the campground reservation and taking wife's RAV4 instead, as we would have ended up paying for a spot at the campground to charge, and also paying for the hotel we had booked with DVC points before the Model S even arrived.

At least in the future, even if WDW itself isn't EV friendly, should be able to top off the battery at the closest Supercharger on the way into town to give enough juice to run around during vacation, then hit the same charger on the way back north...

Maybe next trip for us the Supercharger infrastructure along I-95 will all be in place!

You would think that WDW's Grand Floridian would be able to afford to install EV friendly infrastructure when charging $500+/night for their 800+ rooms.

    Regarding your Raleigh-Disney trip:

Florence looks like a good midway stop between Raleigh & Savannah. Plugshare shows three chargers near the I-95/I-20 interchange (hotel, Nissan dealership, parking lot?). Raleigh to Florence is approx 150 miles. The trip from Florence to Savannah is approx 170 miles. You'd probably need to add 80-90 miles while in Florence to make it to Savannah. As far as Savannah goes (per forum post by others), there are Eaton Level II chargers with spaces reserved for EVs in the Ellis Square underground parking garage. I've personally stayed in the Ellis Square area and found it to be well located. I recommend the Avia Hotel. Savannah to St. Augustine is approx 186 miles. Plugshare shows a Nissan Dealership being the only 'quick' charging available in the area.

Once you leave St. Augustine loaded up, it's just a matter of finding a place at WDW.

TMC user Robballan provided this info regarding Grand Floridian:
"OK, I've drove from WPB to Disney's Grand Floridian in March with my 5-month-old Model S. Roughly 180m each way. I called ahead a week or two in advance. No one at reservations knew anything. So I asked for, and spoke to, the head facilities manager. He was quite excited to hear I was coming, and advised me to ask for the on-duty facilities manager when I arrived. It took a little waiting, but within 1/2 hour of my arriving I was escorted to the employee parking lot, to the golf cart/tram recharging area, and provided a spot with a 110v outlet. He even coned off the neighboring spots for 2 days while I was there. Of course, 110v is less than ideal, but it is what they have, and if you ask nicely, they will go out of their way to help...."

Depending on your connections at Disney and your attendance record (believe me they know exactly how many days you've been there and how much money you spend) you can get them to get you charged. You have to go theu the valet manager and the hotel manager. At Animal Kindom Kandany Village they have a parking spot that has both 110 & 240 near it in the employee parking. At wilderness lodge they took my car to the campground to charge it. But if worse case senecio there is a Charge Point station on the second floor parking at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. I've been up to Disney now three times with my S and was able to get it charged at the resort with the valet.

if you have an iPhone (and perhaps it avail on other mobile phones), get "Camp & RV - Tent Camping to RV Parks" by Allstays. It's $10. Has 5 star ratings. Superb reviews by users. Ppl say its the most accurate app with the most information. Particularly, for us, it has the ability to filter by amenities, of which one of them is 50amp electrical hookups. Pics below. Check out that map of all the campgrounds with 50 amp connections!!! I don't think anyone road tripping will have any problems finding a place to charge... Probably cheaper & faster than charge point stations too, and these places have things to keep you occupied.

The bottom line is that Walt Disney World still does not accommodate EV drivers that are mere mortals, and it requires a great deal of effort to obtain any sort of accommodation.

If you are planning on visiting Disney World it would be easiest to plan to stay at a competing hotel/resort in Orlando and tell Disney that you won't be patronizing their hotel/resorts until they provide chargers. Here is their contact email. [email protected]

We have been in contact with Disney for over a year and while very polite they have told us they have no intention of providing chargers in the foreable future. They say that there is insufficient demand. Disney is not likely to take action until their management realizes that their regular patrons are moving to other competing hotel/resorts that do provide this important amenity.

    Here's a relevant thread.

Disney's current position regarding electric chargers

Here's a thread that lists other hotels in Orlando that provide chargers.

Made it to Florence with no problem. Charging over night at the Hilton Garden Inn. Tomorrow, off to Savannah!

BTW, a little back ground on our late start (other than frantic last minute packing). Finally had the car completely packed around seven pm. Wife was writing some last minute instructions to the house sitter. I hop in and get the a/c going and pop some papers in the glove box. It opened right up, but then wound not shut! It wouldn't catch at all. It just flopped open freely. I fiddled, shook, poked, and even banged (channeling my inner Fonzie) but nothing seemed to help. The release mechanism was functioning when I pressed the button, but the door wouldn't stay up. My wife started eyeing the ICE. I called the support number and the tech said it was probably a pretty involved fix but would see what he could do. I was only a few miles from the Raleigh SC, so he offer to try calling them even though they were closed. A few minutes later He came back on saying the Manager was there and would take a look. Within a few minutes, Trevor, the Raleigh SC manager, saved the day. It was a simple fix and he had it working in seconds. The spring loaded catch on the right side of the door (not the frame, where I was looking) had over retracted and caught on the inside. A quick realignment with a small screw driver and it popped right out. One thing of interest to note... Trevor said he knew exactly what to do because I was the third to come in with the exact same problem in the past two days. Oh well. Props to Trevor for the excellent after hours service!

I see you are already on the way. From toting around offspring, I would say that aspect of the trip is the most challenging. I will be watching the thread for any hints of that as a stress spot. I know that if you turn the heat up, they all fall asleep.

    Just sayin'
