Does anyone else think Tesla Energy is trying to destroy the sterling reputation earned by TesaMotor

I agree with your initial concept except that Tesla Solar will fail due to lack of initiative. Asking a customer who is ready NOW for their panels to wait (in my personal experience) over 9 months to submit permits is insane. That leads to brand destruction. Tesla Energy contracts out it's installations, warranties, and replacements to companies with their own customers. Where do you think that contracted companies loyalties lie? Certainly NOT with Tesla. You can't ask a capitalistic society to embrace a socialist solar installation model when they perceive Tesla as part of the problem. Tesla needs to show that they can do solar installation better, cheaper, and more efficiently and THEN incorporate the masses to join them. What they have right now is a clusterfuck of disorganization.
A) Self generating solar is far more capitalist than sucking the teet of centralized utility power. Solar wins out in markets because it's cheaper and better.

B) Tesla Energy is brand new and a mess in FL because.....well Florida. The state and local govts are deeply corrupted by fossil interests and some of their best sabotage methods are disrupting permitting and interconnection. That's not Tesla's fault, it's just Florida.

LG Chem, Sonnen. Both have much better and mature "TBC", and solar-panel curtailment, than Tesla's current flailing.

Though you'll pay out the nose for either to achieve the same parity capacity.

Thanks! Though I'm not sure what "TBC" means.

2019 Solar Batteries: Sonnen, Tesla, Aquion, LG Chem | EnergySage

It is not clear that the listed alternatives have the needed PW features. My PW, in the mornings, charges the battery and pushes power to the grid both during and after battery charging. In the evenings, it uses the battery as long a possible. Until a settable discharge level has been reached. Then uses grid power. In addition, the PW seamlessly shifts to battery if/when grid power fails. When off grid, the PW shifts power frequency to cut off inverters when PV power supply exceeds demand.

I'll be inquiring.

I searched my email for the last time I contacted them about a particular issue, and found a ticket for the issue on December 19, 2018. I wanted to look at their customer support notes for my ticket, so this is what I found online:

Do you notice what's missing? (No, I'm not talking about the address and order# which I censored.)

Anyway, I called Technical Support, waited on hold for 11 minutes, told the nice lady my info, was put on hold for a few more minutes, and she said I'll get a response in 1-3 days. Let's see what happens! They understood my question.

But, it would still have been nice to see what happened with the old ticket.

Have you tried the Powerwall self-registration page to get app access? Powerwall Self Registration | Tesla

I agree that the Powerwall support group is frustrating to deal with. I don't think it's that surprising given SolarCity's reputation, though.

I did try the "Self Registration" (perhaps again) a few months ago. Much like speaking to a fence post. My PW is now about 9 months old and I'm still very pleased with it. I STILL do not have app access to the PW.

You probably thought that because it's bought and paid for, that means it's yours. Telsa take a different view towards property rights, and consider that since they built into it the ability to tinker with it remotely, that fully entitles them to do so, and you have no grounds to object. Telling them not to will achieve nothing. The only way to prevent it is to disconnect the thing from the Internet, which will have the side effect of preventing the Ap from working.
A firewall could allow local access and deny them the ability to muck around.

But, the Tesla warranty requires they have ability to muck with it.

And either way, they don't give you the source code or root access.

That's why I'm loudly not recommending Tesla any more.

What are you referring to? Can you use English? Are you having a technical difficulty on your setup, or some type of misunderstanding of how to use TMC? Here's the photo again, in case it helps you:

Previously, clicking on the link was throwing the error message that I posted above. This was happening for all users. Also, previously, your original post was not displaying any image. Now it is there.

Either you fixed it (sharing permissions) or something was fixed on TMC. It is working now.

BTW, as a moderator, I have a pretty good idea of how TMC works. I know how to click on a link. Please try not to be snippy in your replies or your posts will be removed.

Thank you for explaining. I just needed more information. If you report an error to me, I need sufficient information to process the error. At first, I thought your message contained information that I could not access, so I needed to know what was going on. It took a while for me to ascertain no such function exists on TMC.

This thread inspired me to call them since it was a workday when I read it, and I did so, for the issue with my PowerWalls that needs resolving. After 15 minutes, I was told they will contact me back in 1-3 days. Maybe you can get something like that, too?

Followup:

I received an email this morning at 8:37AM P.T. that they resolved the issue. They said I had to log out and log in to fix it. While I couldn't verify since there was another problem with many Tesla apps that we couldn't use the apps because of server maintenance or something, just now this evening I was able to log back in, I confirmed that they did fix it! I now have access to an "Advanced" tab with "Time-based control" for the first time since I installed it! I had asked for this to be done before, but they did not do it until now. It helps to sometimes try again. This time the phone call made the difference!

Now I'm going to have to learn how Tesla PowerWall Time-based control works! Exciting!

Also: I now have Storm Watch! It only has a binary setting. Under it is a bunch of expanding yellow circles periodically coming out of a static yellow circle around a cloud with a lightning bolt and an exclamation mark in a triangle in the bottom of the inner yellow circle. Does that mean something is happening?

Edit: Exciting! I should move this to appropriate threads. I'll see you soon!
