Tesla has proposed a 10.4kW system for me.

Will my system fall under Tier 1 or Tier 2?

I would say tier 2, but you can always request a panel less to get under the threshold if you don't want to pay the extra fees and liability coverage.

Plus Tesla has told me Tier 2 was 12 not 10

I'd get it in writing from the Tesla rep. who gave the quote. They should have these details nailed down.

I'm in Tampa and just had this same question as I'm installing an 11kW system soon. I'm with TECO, not Duke, but they have the same Tier setup.

The way it actually works is that you multiply your system size by 0.85 because of the losses in the DC->AC inverter. Therefore, the actual max for Tier 1 is ~11.7 kw (approx the 12 kW that Tesla told you) because 11.7 * 0.85 = 10 kW.

Nice! Yeah, similar $/W for me. Just figured I'd mention the matching since it was such a huge difference.

Haven’t scheduled that yet. SIgned the deal with Tesla, site survey about 3 days later. Design finished a week after that. Then signed the official loan docs and permit application / utility stuff. It’s been about a week, now, since I sent over the last of the paperwork. I assume we’re waiting for responses about permits/etc., but no install schedule yet.

Update: Exactly 3 weeks after signing the initial agreement (before site survey or anything), they called to schedule installation. Could have installed at 3.5 weeks, but will be at 4.5 weeks due to our schedule.

Not initially but maybe in the future. It is at least 8 months wait list from Tesla.

Update: 4.5 weeks after first contact with Tesla, the system was installed yesterday. Now waiting for updates to the drawings based on actual installation, then inspection, then new meter and final approval / PTO.
