Aren't BMW batteries usually under the trunk floor? Keeping it out of the engine compartment heat zone probably contributes more to its long life than the computer.
Lots of cars have batteries not in the engine compartment. A Mazda Miata and a Dodge Charger, Chevy Corvette, and VW SUV's even a mid-2000's Buick Lucerne have them in the trunk or cabin for instance.

While heat does matter, you don't drive the car that much. 12,000 miles a year at 40 MPH is only 300 hours. That's only 3.5% of a year. This is why cars in hot places can really beat up batteries- spending 100 days of the year over 100F does a lot more damage than getting warm for a few minutes each day.

A battery location about a foot and half from the turbo/cat is a real issue for the VW 2.0T GTi.

Many software updates and 15 months later the EarthX is still working fine.

Unletaed to the EarthX battery, My Telsa lead acid battery I removed from the vehicle 15 months ago and kept on a battery maintainer died. Put it back in the vehicle to trigger errors so Tesla would come out to replace it. Let's see how long a brand new one will last on the bench.

The Etx battery is simply a hi rate starter battery. not a deep cycle battery. nothing special about it except for the high price.
Are u saying the " fix" is to use a starter battery type ? There are other suppliers of similar lithium starter batteries as well.
