Here is my story...

Order MSM AWD with white interior performance (no PUP) and tow hitch and FSD with Littleton, Colorado Service Center on 4/22/20...
Heard nothing...
Decided to order another IDENTICAL one WITHOUT tow hitch to the Superior, Colorado service center on 6/1/20 to see if that would speed things up....
The next day I got that "2-4 week delivery" text and then yesterday, I got a call from Adrienne at the Las Vegas facility just confirming and finalizing my "no trade/not financing" status and letting me know that the car would likely be ready this month (hence why he called me). He did not have a VIN yet but also confirmed with me that the car would come to SUPERIOR (yes, that's right, this was not the order I made 7 weeks ago but the order I made 3 days ago). The cars are IDENTICAL except for the Tow Hitch not being on the second order (and Adrienne confirmed that they are pretty much all getting shipped without tow hitches to have them installed later at the service center).

And here I am on this forum reading about people who put in orders in 2019 and have heard nothing and I just have some weird luck by ordering a second vehicle that gets confirmed before my first vehicle did. Its just plain loopy.

The only thing I can suggest is to maybe order a second vehicle (if you can spare losing $100) to a different service center and remove the hitch and see if that speeds up your delivery. Who the heck knows...

Good share. Your story highlights how the "process" is an absolute cluster. I just ordered last week and got a call from my TA saying I'll be ready to receive delivery within the next few weeks. I get why most of the early order placers are so pissed off about not hearing ANYTHING from Tesla yet about their orders. This needs to be fixed!

I replied in another forum with this but I’ll put it here for awareness

I did almost the exact same thing but to the same location as my original (Littleton, CO). Ordered the back up 3 days ago. I originally have a MSM/Black PUP that I ordered in Jan 2020. I ordered the back up with same color but Performance non-PUP with Gemini wheels, no tow and no FSD.

I also got a call from Nevada yesterday around 3pm for that backup, not the original, and was told I’d have the car by end of the month if not sooner. Which is fine with me because the smaller wheels will be better for snow and won’t require separate snow tires. Absolutely no word on my original order from 6 months ago...

It's totally crazy. Hope to see ya on the Colorado roads!

I'm tempted to try this out. How did you change your delivery place? I live super far from a center, so it automatically put me at home delivery with my first order. I'd be happy to drive to a delivery center if it makes things quicker. I started trying a second order, but didn't see a place to put in delivery. Have I missed something? Also, are you applying for financing for both orders, or paying cash?

Hard to say why this is. I have an MSM/White AWD/FSD/19" ordered in Feb. The car will go through the Littleton center on it's way to NM. Right when the factory was reopening I get a call asking if I could take delivery ASAP. Told them yes. Haven't heard anything since then (about a month). Thinking about placing a backup order to see what happens because this is ridiculous.

This definitely is so crazy. It is amazing how different every experience is and how people are at different parts of the process but have no clue if where they are at is good or not. I had ordered in January and then decided to cancel in March when the landscape of everything changed. The week after I cancelled I got a call asking if I would be ready to accept it. I politely said I had already cancelled. In early May I decided to put my order back in hoping that I would get the car by August. A day later a delivery specialist reached out to me via text just to introduce themselves. Then on Tuesday May 26th I got a text stating that Model Y production has resumed and we expect a mid-to-late June delivery for those customers who have submitted all items by June 1st. So I filled out everything but the insurance stuff because I had no VIN. Well then this Tuesday June 2nd I got the VIN in source code only. I still see no MVPA, haven't gotten any other type of text or delivery date information. But I have a VIN in my source code which I don't know if that is good or not. So I am just waiting like the rest. Good luck to everyone and to those that have been waiting the longest I truly hope you guys get your cars soon.

I'm of the belief that everything anyone who works at Tesla tells you is complete poppycock. Until you've got a VIN assigned, words are just wind.

I got a voicemail from a guy at Tesla making sure I was still doing my trade. When I called him back, I was told the car will be ready in 8-12 weeks, but "don't be surprised if you get it next week".

Hmmm....
I just got what I think is a logical explanation from a Senior Adviser at the Inside Sales Team.
I won't put their name since I did not ask for permission to quote them.

To make a long story longer...take this anyway you like, I'm just telling you what was told to me.

The newer orders that are getting filled are cars that are "reworked/refixed/previously rejected" or from pre-existing inventory etc.
If you are a Day 0 (or an early orderee - I didn't ask what the cutoff date was), your car is being freshly 'built/constructed/assembled' "now" - as we speak.

Again, I'm just passing along what I was told.

edit:
He also said, these new build should be perfect, with none of the previous build quality issues....We shall see!
ETA for these cars is 2 weeks (could be earlier, depending on location.)

So I was forwarded this post by awedio_femi (Thanks!) where others are talking about delivery in the thread below:
Text from Tesla - but no VIN/MVPA yet

So what's crazy in that thread is there are a few of us in the opposite camp- or what I was calling the island of misfit toys.. We have VINS, we have MVPA, we are ready to go... and no email or text or communication- not even the recent one saying 2-4 weeks... nothing... not even a HI or a name who will be our delivery person... just radio silence while we stare at the VIN.

So stir that into the crazy soup of Tesla delivery... :)

Very interesting insight. Thanks for posting this.

I'd highly doubt what the Sales person told you. Like Dgstan is saying, anything we hear is also contradicted by what someone else on this forum was told by some other rep.

Almost all (potentially all) of the VIN assignments and deliveries that have been happening in the past couple weeks, people have been reporting their build date as 5/20. If their car was built in May, it could not have been some left over inventory or rejected car sitting around from when the factory was open in March.

We've also seen people who ordered back in 2019 with the EXACT order as people with 2020 reservations not getting their car before the 2020 reservation holder (again, with a build date of 5/20).

They have no system that we will ever understand, and their communication across the whole process is terrible. That being said, I've accepted that, and am still very excited to get what I consider to be one of the absolute best cars you can buy right now.
