Frunk latch - seizing

A few months back my frunk latch wouldn’t “pop” open and I thought it was because some cloth got jammed up into it. Just to be safe, I lubricated it and then yesterday I went to wash my car and and it wouldn’t pop again. After repeated efforts I finally got it to work after incessantly pressing the release on my remote. It was seized up and it looks rusted so I lubricated it again and it was fine this morning.

Not sure if lubricating it is a long term fix, but in the event that it is, is there a preferred lubricant for the latch? Keep in mind, my car is a refresh and I live in a cold climate with regular exposure to snow, salt and all the crap that comes with winter weather.
