Don't let @Intl Professor hear talk about old people like that.

We always think "old" is people 15 years older than we. He's old, for me. There are ways to cheat. After a decade or so viagra stopped working for me. But I just convinced by much younger wife to take Basis, by Elysium Health, an MIT spinoff by the head of their anti-aging research program. It is supposed to stimulate the metabolism at the cellular level. Not an advice, except to check out their site.

Basis by Elysium Health - Clinically-Proven NAD+ Supplement

I know, off topic, but perhaps useful to all of us who want, or think we need, even more brain power. (I think my writing here has improved, but hard to tell when you have such a smart audience to address.)

What’s the difference and or similarity between coq10 and Basis?

I was trying to understand the relationship of your experience with Viagra to the business of Tesla until I realized you were offering your experience as the basis for one of the first ads by Tesla be along the lines of:

Ten years of Viagra and it loses its efficacy
but ten years of driving a Tesla and it still has more thrust than any ICE on the road

Investors are ignoring this cadence:

Model S did it in 4 years.
Model X did it in 2 years.
Model 3 did it in 10 months.

Now imagine Model Y.

Don’t get too carried away with this stat.
1) Tesla is working through a huge backlog.
2) 3/4 series is more like 30k/month worldwide.
3) 3 series was split into 3 and 4 series.
4) 3/4 series are near end of life.

I think Model 3 will become the world leader, but I feel this particular comparison is misleading as to the extent at this point in time.

Well, shoot. They're actually doing this.

"SpaceX option package for new Tesla Roadster will include ~10 small rocket thrusters arranged seamlessly around car. These rocket engines dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering. Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly …"

I would say that’s a joke, but with Elon, who the hell knows?

I've yet to see a Twitter joke from Elon not turn into reality at some point - regardless of the ridiculousness. So this'll probably happen.

I have a hard time believing he’d be pro-burning a fossil fuel of any kind in a Tesla. Any way to do what he’s claiming without that?

I was concerned about this as well. Seems like a great way to shoot yourself in the foot - but as @mongo points out they're thrusters not engines. They'll probably run on nitrogen or some other inert gas - I can't see them releasing any CO2 in the atmosphere. The negative press from that is just too obvious for Musk to miss.

Although, could it be possible to use regular compressed air, and have the car compress the air, to avoid having to refill the thrusters? Maybe someone with more physics prowess than me can chime in here, but having to refill the thrusters after a lap or two around the track seems like a pain though - both from a consumer and infrastructure perspective.

This package will be difficult for other companies to copy. It's real rocket science.

They could use compressed air... even if they use real rocket fuel, it's only used occasionally, not during normal drive.

Would you wise folks help me understand something. I am really puzzled by the level of confidence some otherwise very intelligent people put on incumbent car manufactures, alone the line of these big guys can crush Tesla like a bug. This is especially baffling after we saw so many big and powerful enterprise failed to compete with the new comers, just in the past twenty years. what gives?

I reckon it’s adapted cold gas thrusters used in upper stage rocket guidance, using plain old compressed air.

Using the config you describe, plus an electric pump to replenish air in COPV, when car power draw drops below max pack power output, makes sense. But we are going to go a lot further.
