Though kinda fluffy, this article reintroduces some interesting issues. I'm for distributed generation, myself; producing power in proximity to where it's used. But I also find the idea of huge solar plants out in the desert intriguing. They may be more efficient/cost effective even considering the power lines that would have to be built.

I personally like the idea of being completely self-sufficient, not relying on any grid. Less bills too! Dunno if this is practical for everyone though, even if solar power becomes super cheap.

It'll help when the zombie apocalypse comes. :wink:

I've heard the high voltage DC grid being touted for a while - good to see the politicians are getting on board.
