Also around the Indian Prime Minister's power base. Good reasons to be there including ports, but location may matter for political reasons.
Without extraneous Gujarat comments ( cannot resist: Gujarati-owned hotels are nearly half of US units) there are many good reasons for locating there, but there are other places that have better engineering pools:

If true, the advantages may have been compelling. Announcements reflecting hope rather than fact are not exactly unprecedented.
Either way we will know when Tesla announcements Happen.

Costs are surprisingly high in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru etc. Presumably Gujarat not so much and is well located.

Both Delhi and Mumbai areas are so deeply congested anyway that a significant factory location would be difficult to find anyway, direct cost and difficult logistics exacerbates those locations. Bengalru was wonderful years ago, but now is full of call centers, technology companies and the like, so is both more expensive and not really ideally located for logistics, since the nearest decent ocean port is nearly 300km away, although there are 'slightly creaky' rail connections to Bangalaluru.

Gujarat has good port access and relatively congenial political environment.
As noted, time will tell!

If India I suggest that Tesla Energy may be the major focus, where the needs are near-infinite, cost efficiency is enormous and grid services need help, lots of help.

As a data nerd too, I love this, @Buckminster , thanks.

Comments:
  1. This is exclusive of Energy and AI / Dojo ...why?
  2. Why "Dev" team only? Surely Tesla's manufacturing / production teams are relevant? That's why Elon has them sit next to each other.
  3. Is this US / NA only? Or whole world? I think the chart will vary globally (e.g. China's done on Highland), and also there will be other projects globally to allocate to - namely construction of one (Mexico), two (India), or more Gigafactories.
  4. Your totals are wrong (see 2.)
  5. I absorb info much better visually. This is what you've forecast:

Hope this helps.

Now - what do others think of the balancing?

Happy New Year's Eve's Eve!
Nice graph.
I excluded a whole bunch of products for simplicity and because Dojo etc will be a different team. I was thinking of dev incl many engineers who then mostly roll off. Not sure we know enough about non USA teams to guess.

Roadster will be a small team because they will be almost handmade.
