Great September Delivery Push

2 of my coworkers got delivery dates set for next week. One was contacted by multiple IDAs. One told him that they have to set a date for everyone. When I took delivery last month, I was only contacted AFTER I got a vin. I think now they just set the date and hope a VIN will come up to match when it gets close to the date. Both of my coworkers were not too optimistic on getting the car on time, but at least they should get it before the year is over and get the full tax credit.

Good news maybe??? I had a scheduled delivery of 9-27. Then got a text today asking if we could pick up the car tomorrow! We had never even received our VIN yet... Of course we said yes!

I then checked our Tesla account, and now have a VIN 088XXX.

This made me a bit concerned as I was just at Rocklin Tesla yesterday and saw at least three cars that had just arrived matching our order, and all of them had VINS of 100XXX

What's the chance that I am getting a car that someone rejected???

VIN is not assigned sequentially, so it's not an indicator of build date.

I do understand that (to some extent), but I've been watching the cars come and go from Rocklin, and they have been (for the most part) increasing with each new shipment... I've been watching as they hit 50xxx, then the 60xxx, then 70xxx etc. And, with only few exceptions, it appeared that that remained consistent... I have asked for the manufacture date and hope to get that info soon. The cars that were delivered over the last few days all had the manufacture date of 9/18 and VINS of 100xxx. What was funny, is that the cars arrived on 9/17 with a sticker saying manufacture date of 9/18. Thought that was a bit strange.

The delivery person got back to me and said that it has a 9/17 "line date" - which she said is when it went through the manufacturing line, and that the car just arrived yesterday... So I feel more comfortable... Cannot wait for Friday night at 5:45PM. Have to wash my Model X to drive over to pick up the M3! Happy Days!

Reserved 2 years ago. Configured end June as soon as they opened orders for P3D. Got a text message Monday 9/17 morning--offering delivery on or after Wednesday 9/19 @ Fremont (P3D+ multi-coat red/black interior w/EAP). The Tesla rep (interestingly a 5 year employee working out of Fremont, but reports to a manager in Las Vegas) wanted to have me take delivery by Sunday 9/23 and was offering some kind of $200 incentive (did not explore--could not make it). Now scheduled Monday 9/24 @ 9:00 am in Fremont. Pushed to get an ISA. Assigned one next day (Las Vegas). Got the info to update my Profile page. Got my MVPA yesterday Wed. 9/19. Sent to Alliant CU (my existing lender--preapproved). Waiting for answers to a few questions from ISA (I want an assigned name of the DS/DA who will be 'boots on the ground' at the Fremont Delivery Center). Hoping for a painless delivery (and that the car will be ready and there on Monday). Gonna be a zoo....

My car was in the 55Ks. Was built in a tent. Was built during 5000 per week surge. It's fine.

Judge the car on merits other than the VIN.

East coast deliveries are screwed. My car is still sittingin Richmond railyard. Hasn't moved for at least a week, probably longer. Seems like Tesla can't manage the east coast rail/ truck logistics right now. They probably just said "screw it" and are trying to deliver as many California cars as possible before EOM.
Just wish they wouldn't have told me 9/21 was delivery date, and now, only after me calling and badgering them, tell me they hope I can get the car in mid October. I sold my car last week so now I get to rent cars for a month?

Once the UP or BNSF has their hands on it Tesla has nothing to say. Tesla is a very small fish to them so comes low in the priority order. Plan on it sitting a week in the Chicago area too as CSX or NS take their time moving it through and east of there. Right now the west coast priority is probably getting the stuff from China through customs and on its way before Donnie's new tariffs take effect.

Mine is 22xxx and is awesome. Chill out, folks. Look over the car. Don't fret over VIN number.

I'm sure it's the same build quality for all in-tents purposes ;)

Well played.

8/28 Ordered long range AWD w/ EAP.
9/6 Contacted to schedule delivery, but no VIN. Scheduled for 9/27.
9/19 (today) - Still no VIN, and no action on my trade-in.

With only a week until 9/27, I'm expecting this is going to be delayed. I can't even get Lightstream to rate beat yet because the credit union I'm working with won't give me a "final approval" until they have a VIN.

After I posted this, I emailed my specialist. One day later I have both a VIN and a trade-in offer. I even got my loan all finalized with Lightstream last night, so I am ready to roll...feeling more optimistic about my delivery date in one week!

Did they mention anything about when/how the vehicle would be sent to TX and where it's coming from?

They told me that only once I paid in full can the vehicle me marked as ready for shipping and, after payment is received, it's to be sent by rail from California to TX. From what I've been reading here, the CA->DFW transit by rail is expected to take some two weeks, and then the vehicle would be transported farther by truck, if necessary.

Your payment/delivery dates imply either a much quicker shipping method or that perhaps the car is somewhere closer to Texas at the moment. Did they give you any such details or did they just give you a date and that was it?

They won’t give you any details on when it ships, from where or if it’s closer than say California. I tried looking up a few places by vin number and can’t tell. I did get a delivery date on ours for 9/29 when ordering on 9/7. Maybe they had a shipment coming this way and they just added ours to that. Texas is a whole other country and Tesla shipping is a mystery. At least all of us can get the car. Remember there are many that are waiting.
