I know Elon early on basically said that if a supplier couldn't meet the deadlines that they would bring it in house.... I assumed he meant they would bring in the task, not the entire supplier.

Honda build their own robots, why can't Tesla?

Though it does make sense to buy it if they are going to be a critical weak link. Maybe it allows them to cancel other contracts and stop sales from doing customer RFPs, etc. Just pare down things and go hard on the tesla factories.

Considering that this acquisition will help Tesla with overseas manufacturing I imagine that it will help expedite the release of the Model 3 in foreign countries and perhaps speed up that timeline.

You can tell by the tail light area. Seen from the side, the forward point goes downward on the Model S. It goes upward on the Model ☰.

Might still be true but that car is like the 1st prototype made, it has been changed since then.

Honda has far more resources than Tesla and years of trial and error. Sometimes it's better to just outsource the talent instead of building it from the ground up. In this case, it's one step better, they simply acquired the company they've already been outsourcing from. This saves time, money, and allows a faster development process.

That's a model S.

The rear lights of a model S has its tip on the side of the car ending down. The rear lights of a model 3 has its top on the sode of the car ending up.

I think the phrase is " If you can't beat-em - buy-em"

or is it "If you can't beat-em - make them join you".
