After the Columbus Supercharger opens, I plan to visit Houston in my 60. Once I get to Houston, I need a place to charge so I can drive back home to Austin. Does the Tesla Store at the Galleria have Tesla chargers nearby like we do in Austin? How about the Service Center? I would rather charge at 40 amps versus using a public 30 amp charger.

Thanks for any pointers!

@Doug: Yes, the Houston Tesla store has chargers. Galleria Green Garage. Available: 1 Model S HPWC, 1 Roadster HPC with Model S Adapter, and one NEMA 15-40. Bring your UMC in case both high speed chargers are full, but the store can try to reserve one for you if you really need it. (Service center also has a charger, but Galleria is easier and has more stuff to do while you wait.)

Hi guys,
I'll be moving to Houston in mid November.
i don't have an apartment rented yet but I'd like to rent in a complex/building that has a charger.
id prefer to be downtown in the heights or river oaks kinda areas.
can anyone please recommend to me what apartment complex would work best for me to rent?

kind regards,
Emil.

@Emil: I would check PlugShare, Blink, or ChargePoint apps first and click around all of the listings in the area you are thinking of moving to see if any of them show up as apartments. I don't know any off the top of my head, but you might call the Tesla Gallery in the Galleria to see if they have heard of one.

Update for this Saturday morning's activity. Normally we would be at Houston Coffee and Cars (since it is the first Saturday of the month); however, it is moved this month to downtown for Grand Prix of Houston. We opted not to attend due to the cost, but if anyone does decide to go, please take some photos. A few of the rest of us are going to take a leisurely drive to Hempstead for lunch:

Meetup Details:
When: Saturday, October 5, 2013
Where: Starbucks Vintage Park, 10805 Louetta Rd, Houston, TX 77070
When: 9:30 a.m.
Caravan drive: 10 a.m. (promptly or as soon as all of us arrive)
Arrive: 11:00 p.m.
Destination: The Thirsty Parrot, 13200 FM 359, Hempstead, TX 77445

The Thirsty Parrot Bar Grill

Afterwards, a few might head to Columbus to try out the new SuperCharger (which is already on), although I have to get back so I won't make it there until Tuesday.

All are welcome!

Thanks Stephen! Looking forward to my Houston trip!

Thumbs up for Collision Plus

Wanted to give Sam and his team at Collision Plus two big thumbs up!

We have taken several of our previous Audis there (just west of 59 on Bellaire) over the last few years, and have been very pleased. They are certified to work on Bentley's, and do the real work for a number of local Cadillac and other dealers.

A couple of weeks ago we had a weirdly bad stretch, starting with a right door scrape/dent that needed some aluminum structural work. This was followed by at least 2 parking lot and other lesser scratches and scrapes over several days, all along the right side from front to back. Took it in Tues, back today. And they pushed it because I am heading out of town early tomorrow (hence no photos), and stayed open a bit late to finish.

They did a meticulous and professional job, fully repainting a partial fix that was not up to their high standards. It looks just like new to me. They also worked with us on the price (didn't want to go with insurance) and we are completely happy with the experience - or at least the part after taking it in!

Definitely think that they are the place to go for body work in Houston.

Visited the Galleria today. Used my UMC to charge. The store staff gave me directions, met me at the chargers, and escorted me to the store. Nice folks!

The Galleria plus the Columbus Superchargers made the trip from Austin in my 60 a breeze.

Thanks Stephen!

@Doug: Glad it worked out!

Heads up everyone:

SpaceX got back to us and the tour opportunity is on! SpaceX chose 11/23/2013 (Time: TBD). To attend:

Email John Kingman (jakingman at gmail.com) to confirm your attendance for this specific date.

Date: 11/23/2013
Time: TBD
Address: 1 Rocket Rd., McGregor, TX 76657

Logistics:

There will be many Tesla owners attending from Dallas, Austin, and Houston. Supercharging congestion will be an issue, so plan accordingly. I will likely drive up the night before, SuperCharge when there is less of a crowd, and head over when the tour starts. As we get closer and know what time the tour will start, maybe we can plan some meet-ups for breakfast before or dinner afterwards.

SpaceX is ~26 miles from the Tesla SuperCharger at the Collin Street Bakery in Waco / Bellmead.
Waco SC is ~182 miles from Houston
SpaceX is ~195 miles from Houston

There is no guarantee for what we will see, but SpaceX says there are engine tests almost every day, so we might get lucky.

If you want to know more about what SpaceX does at McGregor, see this link:

SpaceX's Reusable 'Grasshopper' Rocket Soars in Highest Test Flight Yet (Video) | Space.com

As far as I know, there are no public tours of this facility, so this should be a pretty cool.

Unfortunately, the SpaceX tour is cancelled for the near term. John Kingman said that a high of 53 cars with 153 people said they would be attending, and SpaceX was worried they wouldn't be able to accommodate the crowd. They said they are going to be building a larger parking lot which should be done in May/June 2014 and they will work to accommodate us then. Sorry, I know a lot of you were looking forward to it, hopefully we'll get to do it next year.

@vrracr: Yes, Houston Coffee and Cars on 11/2. I will post a reminder.

Houston Coffee and Cars:

Coffee and Cars is again this weekend--we had a GREAT turnout last time!

Did you just get your car in the last month or two? Would you like to meet some other owners? Would you like to share your love of Tesla with others? Then come on out!

Details:

NEXT GATHERING: NOV 2nd, 2013 Join us the first Saturday morning the month for our next gathering. From 8:00AM until 10:00AM at Vintage Park.
All are welcome to come by and attend. If you are bringing a Tesla, please try to arrive by 6:30am (!) so you can get a space and we can park together. We will attempt to park next to:

We Got Your Back Chiropractic - http://wegotyourbackchiropractic.com
110 Vintage Park Blvd. Suite D Building J
Houston, Texas 77070

If you think you will be coming, can you let me know by Private Message? I need to know how many spaces to block off and how many to hold for late arrivals. We will likely do the driveout at 9:30am so remember to set your active air suspension to LOW for that if you have it. Driveout is back through the main gate--if you can, try to keep the cars together so we all show up together on the videos. We hope to see you there!!

Anyone have a recommendation for a detailer/paint protection film person in Houston? Have a friend getting a new Model S at the end of the month. Thanks.

I went with XPEL Ultimate from Xpert Tint. (I asked for a rec directly from XPEL pres and he gave me Sunny at Xpert Tint - on 59 just outside beltway)
For OptiCoat Pro I went with Gulf Coast Auto Shield. John Gray does a fantastic thorough job - removing the wheels etc... You can either drop your car off with him in Richmond, or he will come to you.

I highly recommend this combination! I've never had it so easy keeping a car clean and shiny.

I also highly recommend John Gray for the Opticoat Pro. He is meticulous! He is also very flexible and his communications are superb.

DITTO KenEE, very well put.

I too have this exact combo, from the same providers and fully echo this sentiment.

I used John Gray as well, twice in fact as I went back to him a second time after I was rear-ended while stopped at a light in downtown Houston. The insurance covered re-applying the Opti Coat after the body shop had finished the repairs. John is very thorough and very accomodating. He has recently gone from doing the Opti Coat part time while he worked at FedEx to doing it full time.
