HW3 Upgrade Question - May we keep the HW2.5 part?

Hi, newbie here so apologies if this has already been covered. I am scheduled to get my Model 3 upgraded to HW3 next week at the service center.

Has anyone requested the HW2.5 computer or part to keep as part of this upgrade?

if so , would it have any value or use on the secondary market?

That's a great question honestly. If I am paying 4K for the upgrade I should be able to keep whatever parts they are replacing however I doubt they will let you keep it. SC may say that it is a swap not a replacement upgrade.

I just created a new thread postulating that Tesla will be taking the HW2.5 units back in order to form a supercomputer for FSD training.

They would probably consider it a core charge if you wanted to keep it (and charge you for the part), just like if you were to buy a new battery for some reason, the price charged includes returning the old part.

You can try it but I bet 100% thats what they tell you if you ask.
