Supercharger - Bakersfield, CA - Camino Del Rio Ct (LIVE 22 Dec 2023, 20 V3 stalls)

Crazy that it's so busy on day 1. Wonder where those people were charging before? Tesla really needs a charger on HWY 58 east of Bakersfield before you head up the mountain...maybe at the intersection of East Bear Boulevard Mountain road. Google Maps Tesla has a permit for a charger in...

    Supercharger - Oshkosh, WI

I'm back again to this thread this year for the EAA airshow. I'm not attending this year, but I'm using the app to monitor demand. I've seen it go to >25 minute wait time, it's currently down somewhat with 1 stall available. 2B is out of order. I'm predicting it's going to be very busy this...

Safe for battery to sit overnight at 13%?

It's not and it doesn't. If anything, I'm thinking it's good for the BMS to get a sample at this low SOC.

Safe for battery to sit overnight at 13%?

I like charging when my solar is producing. Is it safe (from a battery health standpoint) to let my car sit at 13% over night for about 15 hours until the sun comes up tomorrow?

Supercharger - Tehachapi, CA (permit, 40 stalls)

I drive past the new Tehachapi site every day. I'll report here on the first day that I notice construction activity.

Supercharger - Mojave, CA - Hwy 14 (The Workz, LIVE 23 Aug 2023, 12 stalls)

I'll try to go check it out this weekend if I get bored.

Supercharger - Tehachapi, CA (permit, 40 stalls)

I live in Tehachapi so I'll never use this, but I find it strange to put such a big station at the top of a mountain pass. Once you've made it to the summit, you can coast down in either direction and only use maybe 1% battery. Anyone charging over 90% is going to have trouble with regen going...

    Supercharger - Oshkosh, WI

Someone needs to call the phone number on the chargers and let them know that EAA is happening and that there will be a big backlog if all stalls aren't in working order.

    Supercharger - Oshkosh, WI

I've been concerned in year's past, but never ran into an issue. I went in the morning around 7-8AM to top up to 80-90% and it wasn't busy. I imagine that after the show there could be a line. Please post here with your observations. It will help people next year. The number of Teslas on the...

MAJOR breakthrough in HVAC control (heating with single occupant)

Okay, so I'm an eco nerd and hate the impact that driving in the winter has. I've had my Model 3 through 4 winters now and just today (with the help of the Scan My Tesla app) did I discover that you can go manual temperature control, split the HVAC for left/right controls, set the passenger side...

Front doors not flush with back doors (every Y on the lot).

Nah. I forgot about it and haven't thought about it since. These little things never matter in the long run. The best rule is to look for major issues and be happy with tiny little things that don't matter. There's a reason Tesla has such high customer satisfaction....the cars are just so good...

Front Passenger Air Vent - Can you turn it off?

No. It's totally unacceptable to my wife. Tesla really needs to get with it and allow us to turn off the vent. Obviously there is a valve that lets it be turned off.
  17. ratsbew

Front Passenger Air Vent - Can you turn it off?

You can't turn it off with weight in the passenger seat (someone sitting there). That's what is needed. My primary passenger (my wife) doesn't like air blowing on her.
  18. ratsbew

Front Passenger Air Vent - Can you turn it off?

This does not work for me. It really needs to be an obvious button in the UI.

    Supercharger - Oshkosh, WI

Yeah, morning charging around 6:30 is my game plan. Was there a 2020 airshow? The increase in Teslas since 2019 is massive. I have FSD Beta so I'm sure I could spend time taking people for a ride.
  22. ratsbew

    Supercharger - Oshkosh, WI

How's crowding this year with the EAA air show? There are almost 10x the Teslas on the road compared to 2019 when I last attended. This little 6 stall station is going to get hammered all week! There is a big overlap between pilots and Tesla owners too so I'd expect hundreds of Teslas in the area.

My Model Y Range....is really good.

You're right. I drive the speed limit. It seems like most people who complain about range are driving at illegal speeds. I don't have much sympathy for their complaints.
  24. ratsbew

My Model Y Range....is really good.

Maybe it's the mild weather, but my Model Y (20") range is about 105% EPA...so like 340 miles or so. I've been averaging under 230Wh/mile. Not sure how people are getting down below 250 miles.
  25. ratsbew

Any indication of the 82kWh pack?

My guess is yes, with a larger top/bottom buffer than the Performance cars....I don't think anyone really knows though.
  26. ratsbew

Any indication of the 82kWh pack?

Mine calculated out to 78.6kWh when new (VIN around 179,XXX). I'm happy with that.

Screen's white isn't white (my old Model 3 is)

So my wife took delivery of a new Y a few weeks ago. The very first thing I noticed is that the white balance of the screen isn't white. The white is a very warm white, almost reddish hue. My 2018 Model 3's screen is a much whiter white. Also, I had a new service loaner Model 3 and it's white...

Is it worth trying to align my hood myself?

So my hood alignment was very good at delivery....something happened after I took it in for service to install the homelink system (they removed the bumper...why touch the hood)? It looks like there are only 4 bolts that hold the hood on. Is it worth my time to attempt to align it myself? I...

    Convert NEMA 5-20 to 6-20?

    Supercharger - Hannibal, MO

I just used this charger last night. Supercharging is simply amazing. I didn't need to charge, but my body needed a bathroom break. By the time my wife let the dogs go pee, and the two of us used the facilities we had gained something like 60 miles. It was a no time wasted stop as fast as we...

    Convert NEMA 5-20 to 6-20?

The 5-15 outlets themselves are only rated for 15A. Sure, you could probably pull 20A (16A is actually what it will pull...80% of the rating), but it is outside of the spec and could result in heating. I couldn't sleep soundly at night knowing that I'm pulling 16A through an outlet only rated to...

    Convert NEMA 5-20 to 6-20?

I'm pretty sure the UMC is smart enough to know which plug is plugged into it and won't allow different current/Volts than what is expected.
  33. ratsbew

    Convert NEMA 5-20 to 6-20?

This NEMA 6-20 has been working perfectly for me for nearly 3 years. It was $15 total. Too many people waste money installing a big NEMA 14-50 or HPWC.
  34. ratsbew

Does anyone charge from a regular outlet?

SOOOOO many people waste big money having a NEMA 14-50 or HPWC installed when they could get by just fine on 120V. My wife's Model Y is very happy on 120V. If we know we have a long trip I can just swap it to my parking spot where I have a self-installed NEMA 6-20 that cost me $15 in parts.

Today’s price increase - garage door opener now $325

Wow, glad I got mine for $300. I also ordered my Y for the brief period of time where it was $48,990.

5-15 110V garage wall outlet range anxiety or nothing to worry about ?

120V charging is more useable than many let on. Try it out and see what you think. My wife just took delivery of a Model Y and we have no plans to do anything other than 120V charging. It will be plenty.

    Supercharger - Hannibal, MO

I'll be stopping there for a quick 2-3 minute charge on Friday evening. I'm so excited about this location. It's perfect for my trip from O'Fallon, IL to Burlington, IA. It's just the right distance from home for a 2-3 minute bathroom break to get 20-30 miles of extra range.

Charge cord difficult to plug in/remove.

I just picked up a new Y. I've owned a Model 3 for almost 3 years. The new Y's charge port has a lot of "friction" when you plug in or remove the UMC. Is this normal for new build cars and my older 3 is "worn in" and I've forgotten the difficulty of plugging in when new?
  40. ratsbew

Front doors not flush with back doors (every Y on the lot).

It's pretty minor when I compare it to every other car I've owned other than my Model 3 (which is quite good).
  41. ratsbew

Front doors not flush with back doors (every Y on the lot).

If that's the case, Tesla needs to advertise it as a feature.
  42. ratsbew

Front doors not flush with back doors (every Y on the lot).

I went on the lot to inspect my VIN that's being delivered tomorrow and noticed that neither the driver or passenger doors close flush with the rear doors. I then inspected 5-6 other Ys and they were all exactly the same. Is this by design so that after use when the seals compress over time...

Induction Wheels collect water. Potential balance problems if it freezes to ice?

I went on the lot to check out Model Ys. I noticed that all of the induction wheels had collected a puddle of water on a lip inside the rim. No big deal, but my concern is that in the winter this could freeze and cause a fairly significant out of balance condition. Looks like it collects maybe...

Best way to calibrate autopilot cameras on new car?

I'm about to pick up a new Y. Is there a best way to calibrate the cameras during the first 10-50 miles? Highways vs. city streets. vs other roads?

Any Model Y with new projector headlights in the USA?

The big battery (which appears to be in the LR cars for over a month+) is the most important from a practical standpoint. LR cars have been calculating 78-79kWh usable which indicates the 82kWh pack.

Does Tesla Nav consider elevation change when computing charging stops?

The energy graph is a work of art. I love that thing. It makes road tripping a breeze. Pro tip: When you plug in to supercharge, set your next destination and then bring up the trip graph, it will update in realtime to show you when you can make it to your destination. I charge until it shows...
