I'm taking Delivery Tomorrow! What should I know or do?

Oh, experienced ones of the TMC! Tomorrow I am off to the Fremont Factory to take delivery of my Model 3.

For those of you who have experienced a delivery event already with a model 3, is there anything I should be looking for or know about when I do my walk through before signing.
I appreciate any knowledge sharing from experience!

Thanks,

TI

Bring multiple people with you if you can. I had a checklist from TMC prior to my delivery, but once you get there the excitement takes over and you screw the checklist, but having multiple eyes can help you catch things. If you find something prior to delivery, they're very quick to address them, after delivery...not so much

1. Bring water, snacks, and patience.
2. If you are using a car loan, make sure everyone whose name is on the loan is present to sign.
3. If you are bringing a pre-printed check, make sure it's the exact same amount as they list in the MVPA
4. Make sure they give you:
a. Your Mobile Charging Connector (with J-1772 adaptor and two wall plugs in a soft-sided case)
b. Your front license plate mount (usually in trunk)
c. Two USB cables
d. Two key cards (make sure they both work)
5. If you bought EAP and/or FSD, confirm they are listed in your MVPA and that you have Autopilot options on the screen
6. Make sure your phone is set up correctly to connect to and unlock the car while you are there
7. Open and close everything that opens and closes
8. Look for any glaring problems, broken parts, or damage
9. Bring a wingman to remember things you may forget in the moment
10. Pose for a picture
11. Have a great delivery day!

Inspect every inch of paint. Bring stickies and place one where you find a defect. Point out defects to the delivery specialist. There will likely be a detailer on-site who can tell you if he can correct the defects with detailing or if it will require work at a body shop. Decide if the defects and proposed resolution is acceptable to you. If not, reject delivery and get a new VIN assignment for delivery in 1-3 weeks.

The following are issues I needed to get fixed:

• Taillights were misaligned
• Paint contamination on my front, driver side door
• Missing screws for my front license plate
• Missing clips located on top of my back, driver side tire

Ultimately you should just enjoy the experience. If there are any issues, Tesla will make it right.

Make sure to move all the windows full open to full close. Look at the paint. Check the inside for big scratches. Also, if your delivery experience is anything like mine you'll be in and out in less than 45 mins, BUT remember this is the one time you'll have to find any problems with a "witness" right there from Tesla. Don't get in such a hurry that you don't check things to your satisfaction. I'd bring someone else with you because two set of eyes are better then one.

If you're trading in, don't forget all your key sets/fobs, your title, and the registration.

Install the phone app as soon as you know your VIN. I was able to see car location etc. hours before I took possession.

My only issue was a big scratch on the steering wheel center cover. The staff pointed it out and supposedly I'll be getting that replacement sooner or later.

Open up the front trunk and loudly ask the delivery rep where the engine is. Should be good for a laugh.

When I picked mine up this past Monday I didn’t bring any checklists with me. Most importantly take your time and don’t feel rushed or let anyone rush you out. That part of my delivery was excellent because I didn’t get a sense that they were trying to rush anyone out for the next delivery. I inspected the vehicle first before doing any paperwork.

Also, before you arrive for delivery think about what would be acceptable to you in your mind regarding paint, body, and other issues that the car may have. Unfortunately mine had some issues but I accepted the vehicle because in my mind it wasn’t anything major and knew they could be taken care of. So, good luck with the delivery. And as others have said, you’ll love the car.

.

I love auto chat boards. I know that’s just your way of welcoming a new pup to the pack. Thanks!

And thanks to the nice folks for the advice. You’ve been super helpful. I’m in mid-delivery experience right now. . Super pumped!

Once the car is inspected and the papers are signed, the sales people will congratulate you and shake hands and all that, but after 15 minutes or so of praising your wisdom for getting a Tesla, it starts to get a little weird, and the mood turns to "Ooooooookay, why is he still here?", so take the car and go.
