Insurance and the high cost of excess

I am preparing to take delivery in early Nov and have a collection date. Having carried out a few preliminary quotes I am surprised to see some very high excess figures of £700+ on a £380 pa quote. Direct Line and Churchill in particular.

Has anyone seen “better” deals on insurance elsewhere?

I am doing my quotes now as I just got my reg number through and finding the same! All the excesses are over £500, most £700. I need to use my car for business and so my best quote is £845 with legal protection. Ouch!

It's just the way it is now. Insurance companies don't want to pay out anything if they can help it.. high excesses achieve that.

Novo has a 0 excess option but their annual cost is somewhat higher than a normal insurer.

My approach to insurance is that it is disaster protection. I don’t get overly concerned by a £750 excess.

Go via gocompare. They pay some of the excess.

If you use GoCompare you get £250 off excess, I did that and also took out excess protection from

For £30 pa they will cover £500 excess.

you can get £1000 excess cover for about £40 but its £1000 total so if you have multiple claims you are only covered for £1000 total not per claim
