Wondering if the License Plate holder on the front of the Y (any model, really) is installed by the destination dealer.

I'm still considering PPF on the front, and have decided to get a "Snapplate" License holder.
CAN I talk to my Tesla Advisor and ask him, to have Tesla NOT install the front plate holder, so that I would NOT be required to remove it immediately, to get the PPF?

I guess I'd just like them to "throw the holder in the back" and just not install it!!!

I picked up mine a couple of weeks ago at the Lawrence location and noticed that some cars had plates on them already when they arrived but ours did not. Our delivery specialist pulled them out of our trunk and screwed them on the front after we signed the paperwork. That probably doesn’t help answer your question but it seems like it could go either way.

ooooo, screwed it on front!! I was expecting it to be sticky tape like I've seen in some videos.
(unless you mean screw to the plate holder that was already "stuck" to the front of the car, and he screwed the plate to that!)
I hope I can get my specialist to hear my request, and not proceed like that! (he's not the most talkative guy on email .... read that, hardly ever answers!)
...Yes, Mine will be the Lawrence location.

My memory may be fuzzy but I think he screwed the whole thing on. I don’t remember there being a holder on the front of the car when I first walked up to it. I was thinking of going with something that holds the front plate off the bumper but in the end it doesn’t look bad the way it is.

I don't know if you can pre-empt the installation of the front holder or not but I *can* tell you that removing the holder is fairly trivial. I got PPF applied to my M3 shortly after taking delivery of it and my installer removed the front license plate holder before he even started the paint correction phase. Then he just put it back on when all of the work was done. So odd are that your PPF installer will have no problem removing the holder for you.

Thanks.. wasn't sure it you would want the plate holder on top of the PPF!

@JulesVerne Were you able to get Tesla to deliver the car without the front plate holder? I've ordered a SnapPlate for my upcoming Plaid as well, and will be getting front PPF done, so I'm hoping to not have to mess around with the plate holder (or asking the detailer to remove it). When I spoke with Tesla in Oakville, they said I could request removal closer to the delivery date, but I read on the forums that a memo has been sent out to the service centres last week saying they can't remove the plate holder anymore, so maybe I'm stuck with it either way.

I picked up mine at Lawrence location and the front plate holder is attached with sticky tape. It should be easy to remove if you want to.

Wow, after driving my MY for 2 weeks, I just realized that I don't have a front plate! I think by law, I am supposed to have that in Ontario at all times, and I never had a car without one in the past.

Were they (Lawrence dealer) supposed to have that attached for me? They didn't even give me a second one...

I asked a delivery specialist again if the Oakville SC could leave off the front plate since, but they wouldn’t do it, so I needed to get my detailer to remove it.

@pbcsd I believe the SnapPlate instructions recommend taking it off when going through the car wash. Not sure about the snow issue.

I'm in CA and the front plate was in the trunk. The SC specifically told me they do not install it and leave it up to the owner. The majority of Teslas I see do not have a front plate installed. BTW, CA requires a front plate. But along with tinting front windows, it seems to be rarely enforced. I've noticed that if you do not fit the profile of a criminal, you will likely not be hassled by police. I've not had a front plate on my cars for 25+ years.

I get the feel that Ontario is a bit more enforcing than California... 😄
