Hey all - just took delivery of my 2022 MYLR. Black ext/white int, tow package (didn't want it but had it), 19 inch geminis (would rather 20 inch inductions for anyone who wants to trade) and so far I do love the car. I'm coming from an X5 and the seats are so much more comfortable it's not even comparable, so soft, cushy and supple! When going over the inspection list (which the delivery specialist seemed to be annoyed about almost) I discovered a bunch of little paint issues, scratches and 1 chip. They were able to buff out all but 2 scratches. 1 is nearly impossible to see and the other you can def see if you look. So I was faced with a decision which I feel is actually really messed up after PURCHASING a $70k car. She said "You can either leave the car with us and delay delivery for 5-7 days and we will send it to a body shop who will fix it" or "you can take delivery of the car and then pay for the fixes on your own dime" ... mind you, I have no car right now, they uber'd me there. I said "Can't I just take delivery of the car, you note this and then I'll bring it to the body shop myself, they can fix it etc." and she was adamant that they could not do that and acknowledged the scratch and basically said "it's their way or the highway..." Also, the car is absolutely filthy, they put a bunch of compound on but didn't bother actually cleaning it. Very disappointing.

I'm attaching the scratch in question here which is located by the rear right wheel, behind it on the back/side panel. I'm thinking about emailing Tesla or somehow escalating this but curious what you guys think/would do? Besides this, which did leave a sour taste in my mouth, I do really like the car and can see why so many people enjoy having it.

Thanks all!

For me, it does suck spending that much on a car and not having it be delivered perfect. But on the other hand, I'm going to drive the hell out of my Y and dings, chips and scratches are bound to happen along the way. I'd initially be upset but I think I'd let it go. I guess you accepted delivery so not sure what you can do about it. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask tesla but I wouldn't bank on a response in your favor.

Wait a week - you might develop a small punchlist of other problems that you are not aware of yet. Then schedule a SC appointment, in that call include these minor scratches as a repair item.

Do not accept mobile service - go to the service center in person - be extra nice and see what can be worked out... you could be pleasantly surprised. HOWEVER, if they say they can't fix it - just move on... as Chadster said, you are going to have scratches like that in a matter of months...

Enjoy your new car!

I think this is one of the negatives of Tesla not having a typical dealership model. If you were to buy a car at a dealership and had a scratch, you would get it noted on a Due Bill and the dealership would give you options. Dealerships are sleezy by nature, but they also need to keep customers happy for repeat business and want you to come back for service.
I bought a Tacoma last year and upon inspecting the vehicle I found a scratch on the plastic portion of the front bumper. The dealership offered to replace the part for free or take $250 as compensation. I took the money as the part to replace only cost $190 and I knew it was going to get scratched anyways as I drove.

Sadly with Tesla it truly is a take it or leave it mentality since they don't need to compete with other dealerships and don't have any real competition yet.

Yeh it really is a sad reality. I did take it already, as you can see, just contemplating if I should try to write an email to higher ups or whatever. Bummer.

Thanks all!
It doesn’t matter if the car is $70k or $20k. You worked hard to be able to afford nice things. That is no way to be treated. Which SC in NY?

From what I understand, you should be schedule a service via the Tesla app with pictures.

Hm very interesting, would you call that a gap issue? I can't reject anymore, I accepted. That's the point of the post haha, do I send another email to follow up or am I SOL now.
I do not know what it is, but the two seem related. Something hit the care on that side, and the plastic trim came out and you got a scratch as bonus. People are just not careful with other's property. They think you defecate money. the problem is that if people just keep saying it ok, Tesla will never address the issue. You accepted it so you just have to deal with it. The more you bring it to someone that does not care, the more they will break it. If you do not like it sell it. Personal experience in life with this sort of things. FOMO is your worst enemy.

I honestly didn't even realize the game there, that's not normal?

I had paint issues, that I noted after delivery. As long as you do it quickly (I think within 7 days, but not sure) they are supposed to take care of it. They sent mine to a body shop and repainted a side. Although, the body shop than washed it, and covered the car in swirl marks. 🙄

Thanks all!
I took my car last Monday. It had a deep scratch on the front bumper. I took the car and the next day Tesla has replaced the entire bumper. The car is great now. If they don't want to replace the piece do not accept the car.

No way in hell would I have let the SA tell me I'd have to pay for it on my own if I left with the vehicle. At that point I'd have asked to speak with the manager AND told the SA a complaint email to Tesla would include their name.

Since you needed the vehicle as you didn't have one and couldn't leave the Tesla for a week to be repaired I would have made a note on the delivery documents and demanded the SA initial it. That way you have a record that the car was damaged before delivery and could have it fixed at a later time more convenient to YOU, not them.

People who put up with this kind of *sugar* is exactly the reason Tesla gets away with poor customer service. Nobody should ever willingly bend over and accept poor customer service when spending 70K. But too many people slobber over hunks of technology they'll literally let other people rule over them to get it. Sorry, not me.

Completely agree. Not the way one would be expected to be treated when taking delivery for any new car. I hope you did note that during delivery and tried to get it corrected during the first service appointment. I generally found my 1st service appointment experience to be pretty good

You have 3 days / 100 miles to report delivery issues through the service menu of the Telsa app (add pictures and text to describe damage). I had a minor dent and a scratch. I took delivery, and I have an appointment to get it repaired in a couple of weeks.
