I self insure the first $5k via the deductible and end up with reasonable insurance costs.

E.g., through Amica in Colorado for a $27k, mid-sized Prius Prime. Good record, also have home insurance with them

Comp with $5k deductible

I pay $300 a year. It is my version of 'catastrophic' insurance.

This is not unusual with Tesla, as myself and many other have experienced with Model S and X. We had to switch from AAA after 19 years to Wawanesa last year because AAA wants $3k a year for our Model X 60D. That's more than our BMW M3 (F80), i3, and Sienna combined with same coverage.

I am afraid it'll be similar stories of high premium on Model 3.
