Looking for straight answer on ITC and charging from grid

Hi all,

I'm having a tough time getting a straight answer to the following question:

If a residential Powerwall user charges from the grid at all (even just once, perhaps because Stormwatch kicked in automatically or inadvertently), does that disqualify that user from claiming the 30% ITC?

My understanding is that residential Powerwall users must charge 100% with their own solar panels to claim the ITC.

(Obviously this hobbles functionality for those whose solar production may trail their consumption, but that is a separate issue.)

Would greatly appreciate any insights on this matter. Thank you!

Theoretically yes, but I don't think the IRS is actively checking for it. I'm guessing that if you charge from the grid a few times in the five years due to Stormwatch, there wouldn't be any repercussions.
