Love the car, but the pick up experience is...

Tesla announced the "NEMA 14-50 adapter" (actually a Tesla Mobile Connector Mobile Connector) would no longer be included before you took delivery. Since you stated charging was critical, seems obvious you should have picked up a Tesla Mobile Connector before you took delivery from your Tesla Service Center. Then if a Tesla Mobile Connector came with your Tesla you could have just returned it. I went one step further and had our Tesla High Power Wall Connector installed at our home on a 100A 240V breaker before I took delivery of our 2015 P85D ~ 4 years ago. Not having your "fuel" source in place for your $60k car seems irresponsible. Would you buy a car needing hydrogen and then blame the car dealer / manufacturer if there's no hydrogen refueling station nearby?

Isn't the simple resolution to buy a Tesla Mobile Connector or Tesla Wall Connector? In March, I found a brand new SignatureTesla Wall Connector for our son's Model 3 on Craigslist for $375, had the electrical permit pulled and the electrical contractor lined up.. ALL before they took delivery of their Model 3 LR... in fact even before they closed on their house.

Great planning = Great implementation

I don't think you understand what I am trying to express here. I am not angry at the fact that the adaptor doesn't come with the package. I acknowledge that it was a lack of research on my end. Mind that, the sales I was talking to did mentioned to me that you dont have to get the wall charger, the nema charging will be sufficient enough. I choose to just stick with what the sales team told me instead of doing more research.

I am upset about the way the situation is handled when there are issues.

And good for you for doing all the research and have the money to do all the preparation ahead of time. I think you are very well prepared for the robotic future that might come soon.

If I am a retail owner you will definitely be my fav customer.

That’s a real shame

The Vancouver Tesla team usually bend over backwards to ensure you’re satisfied - this may be a one off, and you should probably have brought it up with them before posting on here

Notwithstanding, the B.C. EV community is here to help - if you are unsure of any vehicle functions, any one of us would gladly offer advice, and may even have a spare adapter to loan you

Remember, we all have bad days - don’t ‘angry post’ just because you encountered someone who was having one. One day, it could be you on the other end of it......

Happy driving in your amazing new car!

Thanks for the advice :)

I don't have a power source ready yet and the car comes Tuesday.

What I did to prepare - decided to purchase the wall charger. I've read some people reporting delays in shipping - so my OA will have the service center ready with one I can buy when I get the car. I'll get it installed in 1-2 weeks after that.

In the meantime, we spotted chargers at the grocery store near us, and there are a few where I work. So we have a way to get it "gassed" up until we can do it at home.

120V 15A service gets you 17km (10miles) / hr. Don't know what your commute situation is like, but that was enough to cover my daily commute by charging 10+ hours a night from 8PM to 6AM. (Our TOU here is off peak from 7PM to 7AM) until the charger arrived.

Tesla claims 3miles/hr with 120V 15A. Are you getting that consistently? If I get that on a standard outlet I'm not sure I'd bother to upgrade to a Wall Charger just yet.

The "preparation ahead of time" for our kids to have a Tesla Wall Connector ready when their Model 3 LR arrived didn't take much money considering a $60,000 Model 3 purchase:
  • $245 for the electrical permit
  • $375 for the Tesla Wall Connector
  • $300 for licensed electrician to install it (our daughter-in-law got her step brother to install it for beer)
Tesla HAS to trim overhead and expedite their delivery & service process to survive the massive roll out of the Model 3 deliveries and BIG automakers EV response that's coming. IMHO that's a small price to pay for driving a state-of-the-art quantum leap automobile. Sometimes "Leading Edge" is also "Bleeding Edge"...

Oh and Yes I am probably retailers fav customer since I'm educated on their products & services... and don't resort to Twitter | Instagram | Yelp | Facebook to resolve issues. No surprise, I get better customer service because they LIKE me, not because they FEAR or HATE me.

Back to the OPs topic. I feel for you as I had one of the worst car purchase experiences buying my M3. But the car is great. Don't want to rant on your post but if anyone wants details I can always divulge . Enjoy the car OP!

I was planning to bring a friend with me when I pick up my Model 3, hopefully next week so that I could have two sets of eyes for the ore-delivery inspection. He has friends who recently received a Niro EV and they are all raving about it.

Given the gong show that the Vancouver delivery centre has become, I have mixed views. Bring a friend because inspection is likely to be difficult? Not bring someone because their first experience with Tesla is likely to be horrendous?

The delivery date on my page is June 14 and I still haven’t heard a thing from Tesla.
I pick up on June 14 as well. When did you order? I was May 4.
Apparently you will see more details online 1 week in advance, so tomorrow.
The delivery experience is very concerning though. Tesla needs to get a handle on this with more staff and a better location (instead of a dark underground parking lot).

It's nowhere near 17km/day. I use to charge on 120v until recently where a private organization locally had an incentive for a L2 charger.

So I picked up my SR+ today at the Vancouver location. The car is great, but the pickup experience is the worse experience I have ever encountered.

1) Pick up scheduled at 5:30pm at the West 4th showroom location, arrived on time, and the car did not arrive until 7pm.
2) Was asked to go down to the underground parkade to go through the orientation. I was led to the corner of the parkade in which the light on top was burned and not working. I asked the specialist to move the car to a brighter location, he replied "why?" …??? why? because I can't see anything LOL
3) The specialist proceed to ask me, "So, do you know anything about Model 3? if you do, then we don't have to go through this." by this time, I was a bit shocked about the experiences I received. I proceed to ask the specialist to go through their normal procedure.
4) 10-15 min into the orientation, and we are done. He went through the following: seat/mirror/steering wheel adjustment, how to open and close the door, wiper control, and the different modes for driving. Nothing else. Oh, he put on the license plate for me.
5) I noticed that the charging kit was missing a nema 14-50 adaptor so I ask the specialist about this, he couldn't give me an answer so he ask the manager to talk to me. The manager told me that Tesla stop providing the nema 14-50 adaptor at the beginning of this month, I wasn't aware of this news, as I was in the show room in April and was told that the package would include the adaptor. I placed the order on May 7th and no one mentioned this update to me. I told the manager that it would be crazy if I take the delivery without an adaptor because I drive in average 150km/day for work and I politely ask the manager to see is there anyway I can buy one to use. He said no you have to order online and have it ship to your house. I then proceed to ask him if I can delay the pick up until the adaptor arrives. He said no, he will have to revert my contract. So I rephrase the question and asked "Are you telling me that you are going to revert my contract because of an adaptor?" he replied "Yes" … at this moment I am literally running out of words to say.

I end up taking the car, and spend a good 20min in the parkade trying to figure out things myself, such as paring my phone, going through different options on the screen, using the navigation, and voice control. In which no one from Tesla came to see if I need any other assistance.

When I got home, I went on the Tesla website and found out the nema 14-50 adaptor is on back order LOL.

So now, I am stuck with an awesome car that I can drive for couple days, and then I will have to leave the car at home to charge for 30+ hours before I can use it again, until the adaptor is back in stock to order.

So fellow owners, is there another place that I can buy an adaptor? or is anyone willing to sell me their adaptor if you have an extra one?

Thanks in advance.

NEMA 14-50 is back in stock online. Hurry before it sells out again!
