The only car that was really designed for the 43kw 3-phase AC charging over type 2 was the Zoe 1st Gen and the Zoe Q90 (both discontinued) they had a clever design which used the motor electronics rather than needing a separate onboard charger.
The problem with this charger was that it was actually quite inefficient at low charge rates like on 10-amp feed from a 3-pin plug.
Once the cost of the power electronics came down even the Zoe has switched to an onboard charger.

43kw AC will likely fade away as DC chargers reduce in price. Years from now AC could fade away entirely when DC is available everywhere and you can fit your own DC chargepoint at home or take DC directly from Solar or Home batteries.
