M3 LR Tyre Speed Rating

Morning. I’ve had 2 flat tyres this month. Lease car so have to use Kwik-Fit.

Car as came has 235/45/ZR18 98Y TO Michelin Pilot Sport 4

First Tyre had a back and forth whether the first replacement had to be TO. Eventually agreed that a normal Michelin Pilot Sport 4 was ok after a week of being off the road.

Second got ‘sorted’ on Friday. They’d sent a Michelin Primacy 4 235/45/R18 98W. Guy assured everything was fine, so fitted. But have done some research/googling

Kwik-Fit’s own website states that a lower speed rating than the tyres the car came with, W is lower than Y, should never be fitted.

It’s an MOT fail to have lower than manufacturer recommended speed rating.

Questions is - Does anyone know what the required speed rating for M3 LR is. I can do the maths that W is faster than the top speed. I’ve RTFM and no mention of speed rating nor is it on the plate inside the car. Can’t find anyone else mentioning it either.

Any info gratefully received.

I can't help with your actual question but I am a bit suprised that they are fitting 2 different types of tyre on the same Axle.i thought this was concidered very very bad practice? It's not illegal but If you google it every result says don't do it.

That needs replacing pronto with a PS4S, no arguing from Lease provider or Kwik-Fit - they are taking the pi$$

Just to close this off in case anyone in the future ends up in the same spot.

Michelin have confirmed that they do not recommend having a Pilot Sport 4 and a Primacy 4 on the same axel.

New tyre fitted Thursday hopefully.
