Video #92 - Tesla - FSD Beta 11.3.1 - First Drive In Minnesota!
Early this morning both of my Model 3s received the Tesla OS 2022.45.10 update which included FSD Beta v11.3.1. This video contains footage from my first drive from NE Minneapolis to Shakopee, MN which equates to about 28 miles along with plenty of highway driving. As a reference, please feel free to compare this drive against one I did of the same route last year with FSD Beta 10.10.2:

My initial thoughts of v11.3.1 so far:
Pros:
- Smoother Car Control - Car controls are noticeably SMOOTHER including brake, throttle, and steering inputs!
- Semi Awareness & Detection - Moving within lane to give space to adjacent Semis works every single time!
- Visualizations - FSD visualizations on the highway are awesome, nearly 0 lag even on MCU2
- Intent Messages - Behavior messages (like stopping for stop sign) are now in bold / bigger font and placed at the top of the display. This should definitely help with understanding why the car is doing what’s it’s doing going forward.
- Speed Transitions - When it comes to exiting or transitioning between highways, the ego car will wait until it’s 0.5 miles away from the exit before it makes its final lane change. This is noticeably later than Nav on AP which would make the final lane change 1-1.5 miles always (much more human like)
- Speed limit changes - The ego car reacts to speed limit changes (automatic or manual) much more quickly without sacrificing comfort
- Lane changes - Lane changes, especially automatic ones, now result in only a 1-2 second pause, compared to the previous 5-second pause.
Cons:
- Cut-in Behavior (Highway) - Car unnecessarily slows for cut-ins on highway to maintain 2-car following distance. Guessing this is for safety reasons as this is an early single stack build so not entirely surprising. The brake inputs are slow and the car only reduces its speed by 1-2mph when this happens.
- Right to Left Turn Behavior - Appears to still be present when making left turns on wide roads but need to test further (more to come on this)
- Excessive Hesitation At Empty Intersections - This behavior is still unfortunately present in v11.3.1
Nice work Tesla Autopilot team, your hard work is very apparent with this build!
