Model S delivery date moved up drastically

Well, I hadn't planned on replacing my Tesla until 2022 or 2023 anyway...

The issue causing the hold is over, but it seems like Tesla is having some serious issues with their supply chain, and is de-prioritizing lower-profit LR builds to get maximum Q3 profit from selling Plaid cars. If that's not enough to get their Q3 profits where they want them to be, Plaid might jump another $10K.

Really odd - I ordered an MS last weekend, had an EDD of October as shown on the order page by the time I completed the order. I checked my order page just now and looks like a VIN has been assigned and my delivery date is... two days from now? If true, great... but I'm skeptical considering how long it's been taking others here to take delivery. Anyone else seeing this kind of thing?

What configuration did you order? Delivery state?

I ordered a Model S earlier in the week. It showed an expected delivery of Sep-Oct.

Last night it got updated to delivery between Aug 4 - Aug 18.

is that normal? I had heard that generally delivery gets delayed but here, it came in by about 2 months.

Not that I am complaining.. 😀
You're lucky. i placed my order 2/1 for a LR S and am still waiting for firm delivery

When the order is entered into the system it gives out the NORMAL delivery date. Then in about 24-48 hrs it will change and it may not even give you a delivery date. I ordered my in early April. Saw a delivery date for September then one day there was no delivery date. Was told this is normal.. So Iam keeping my fingers crossed

Tesla advisors, who are supposed to guide buyers through the delivery process, often can’t offer any help to explain those situations as they are also kept in the dark. One of those Model S buyers in this situation is Sam Gabbay who is participating in an effort started on Tesla Motors Club to ask Tesla for better communications around Model S deliveries. They started a letter that now 15 Model S buyers have signed: In the letter, the buyers explained the communication problem:
“We feel that the problem lies in the communication, and we can trace this beyond the confines of our local sales teams. Just like us, the local sales team does not know what to say or have any relevant information other than deliveries of Model S’s they make. In most cases they are as confused as we are. People who placed orders well after some of us are receiving their cars. This now leads to a problem of avoidance between the customer and the local sales team as the local sales team no longer has any new information to share and we are not talking over the course of days, but rather weeks and months.”
They explain that the process is resulting in more than just frustrating delays since the buyers are taking important actions based on Tesla’s communications of VIN numbers and delivery dates:
“As a result of the above actions, customers are left without any recourse. We have no access to our local sales teams and no access to Tesla Customer Support. Some of us even made life changing decisions based on the words of Tesla Executives and our Tesla Account Page. Applying for credit, having our credit pulled multiple times only to have the loan offer expire, selling or making commitments to sell our current vehicles.”
Again, the buyers, who are often are previous Tesla owners upgrading to the new version of the Model S, are simply asking for better communications. They wrote at the end of the letter:
“We are not asking for anything other than communication. We feel, as a group, that the experience we receive before taking delivery should match the feeling of joy and delight that we experience after taking delivery. We titled this “Letter of Support” because this is both to the support of Tesla and ourselves. Tesla does not rely on traditional advertising and their biggest advocates are the customers they serve. We are just asking for normal, solid and consistent communication.”

@hotsoup Nice! See you around town. I'll be in an MSM as well. I'm doing some EDD analysis for Seattle customers. Might you happen to know/recall your EDD date range history; when you first received the two week date range, how near the first date in the range was to the current day, what the range was when you received your vin, etc.? Perhaps this will help you understand what I'm after. Thanks in advance!

So my experience was a little weird.
  1. Submitted order 7/25 in the late morning; at time of ordering, my EDD showed "October".
  2. I randomly checked the order page on 7/28 and found I had a VIN assigned and EDD at the time showed "7/28 - 7/30"; no communication from Tesla.
  3. On 7/29, EDD changed to "7/29 - 8/1".
  4. On 7/30, EDD changed to "7/30 - 8/2" - and I also got a call on 7/30 in the morning from a delivery specialist in my area about scheduling delivery for later in the day or the day after.
  5. Delivered 7/30 at ~4pm.

@hotsoup Wow, that's fast! What VIN range is your car? <>432xxxx

@hotsoup Thanks! Overall, how do you like it? Any major issues?

Whoops, I just caught an error with my previous post - the EDD initially showed October right after order submission, not August as previously written.

Overall I freakin' love it. I'm coming from an old Jetta though, so... I mean, huge step up in every department for me. Like, even the tires... Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 265mm wide with that cool suede sidewall pattern, just so cool. Part of me wishes for a flashier car (think AMG GT, R8) but I think I'll be content for a while before that itch comes back.

The only major issue has been a "sticky" driver-side door handle. It extends, but then doesn't retract. Saw someone on the delivery issue thread reporting the same problem. I also have that interesting yoke "worm" issue a lot of folks seem to be having, but it doesn't bother me enough to get the entire thing replaced. Panel gaps and seals seem fine to me, and no issues with condensation in the lights.
